This role is responsible for conducting inspection of production products and component parts, assisting in the management of nonconforming material, and helping to ensure Viasat’s products meet customer, regulatory, and organizational requirements. This role works closely with Inspection, Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Production teams to drive compliance, product quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.\nIn this role, you will:\nInspect various electrical/electronic, electromechanical, & mechanical components and assemblies for compliance with applicable specifications and standards within the Receiving Inspection and In-Process & Final Production Inspection processes.\nUtilize various measurement tools, gages, & instruments in the course of inspection including microscopy & photographic equipment to help detail nonconforming conditions.\nReview & interpret drawings, specifications, work orders, & manufacturing process documentation to verify product compliance.\nCreate inspection records & nonconformance reports.\nInterface with supply chain, production, & engineering personnel to communicate nonconformances, resolve constraints & seek guidance.\nParticipate in the Material Review Board (MRB) process providing support the MRB Coordinator to facilitate the flow of nonconforming articles throughout the process including reviewing nonconformances, making disposition recommendations, reviewing rework orders and closing nonconformance reports.\nReview traveler work plans, provide & facilitate feedback, & recommend approvals.\nSupport hardware closeout activities including creating End-item Data Packages (EIDP).\nInterface with Quality Engineers and cross-functional teams to achieve quality and operational objectives.\nProvide tactical support to Program Quality Engineers as required.\nOccasionally travel to other local area Viasat facilities to conduct inspections and provide support as required.\nThe day-to-day\nInspecting various electrical/electronic, electromechanical, & mechanical components and assemblies for compliance with applicable specifications and standards within Receiving and Production environments utilizing a variety of tools, gages, & instruments.\nMaintaining strong teamwork the inspection teams to coordinate inspections daily. Work with engineering & other cross-functional teams on a variety of tasks & initiatives. Help coordinate the processing of nonconforming material.\nWhat you'll need\nAssociate’s degree in a technical discipline and/or a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in quality, manufacturing, aerospace, defense, electronics or other related technical field in lieu of a degree.\n\nIndustry experience as an electrical/electronic and/or mechanical inspector.\n\nAbility to read & interpret drawings, specifications, manufacturing documentation, & standards with little or no assistance.\n\nAdvanced utilization experience of inspection equipment, gages, & inspection techniques.\n\nGood judgment & discernment skills of acceptable & rejectable conditions.\n\nStrong computer skills in MS & other business platforms to complete tasks independently.\n\nCurrent IPC certification or the ability to acquire & maintain IPC-A-610, J-STD-001 & IPC/WHMA-A-620 CIS certification.\n\nThe ability to communicate clearly & concisely both verbally & in writing.\n\nPersonal initiative, the ability to set a positive example, and provide leadership when needed.\n\nLocal/regional travel may be required - up to 10%.\n\nGovernment position - U.S. citizenship required.\n\nDayshift hours (flexible start time) 5-day/week.\n\nOccasional weekends/overtime consistent with business needs.\n\nWhat will help you on the job\nBasic GD&T experience in accordance with ASME Y14.5 desirable.\n\nCurrent CIS certification to IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620 desirable.\n\nFamiliarity with AS9100 Quality Management Systems.\n\n#LI-AF1\nSalary range\n$24.28 - $38.46 / hourly.\nFor specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $30.29 - $45.19/ hourly\nAt Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience.
