This role offers the flexibility and convenience of fully remote work, allowing you to contribute from anywhere in the United States.\nAs Senior Internal Communications Manager within Corporate Communications, you will connect employees to Viasat's strategy and culture across Engineering, VGS, and corporate functions. Serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, you will convert complex priorities into effective communication strategies. Additionally, you will lead and mentor junior staff, oversee portfolio deliverables, and autonomously drive communications strategy, governance, and continuous improvement.\nThe day-to-day\nStrategic Communications & Business Partnership\nOwn the internal communications strategy and roadmap for Engineering, VGS, and other assigned business functions, ensuring communication priorities are aligned with business and organizational objectives.\nServe as a strategic communications advisor to senior executives and functional leaders, providing counsel on complex, sensitive, and high-impact organizational communications.\nTranslate complex technical, operational, and business priorities into clear communications strategies that improve employee understanding and organizational alignment.\nAnticipate communications needs, risks, and opportunities and proactively recommend strategies and approaches to leadership.\nLead communications strategy for major business initiatives, organizational changes, leadership priorities, and other complex programs.\nDetermine the appropriate communications approach, audience, timing, sequencing, and channels based on business objectives and stakeholder needs.\nBalance competing communications needs and recommend where team resources should be focused to achieve the greatest organizational impact.\nPeople & Team Leadership\nDirectly supervise and develop junior communications staff, providing day-to-day direction, coaching, prioritization, performance feedback, and career development support.\nSet clear priorities, goals, expectations, and development plans aligned with business needs and employee growth.\nDelegate communications projects and deliverables while maintaining accountability for quality, consistency, timeliness, and business outcomes.\nProvide strategic direction and review communications strategies, messaging, and deliverables developed by the junior team member.\nCoach the junior team member to progressively strengthen strategic communications capabilities, business acumen, stakeholder management, and independent ownership.\nFoster a collaborative, high-performing team environment focused on accountability, responsiveness, continuous improvement, and development.\nExecutive Communications & Organizational Alignment\nPartner with executives and functional leaders to develop communications strategies that build employee understanding, trust, transparency, and connection to business priorities.\nAdvise leaders on messaging, stakeholder considerations, communications risks, sequencing, and employee engagement approaches.\nLead the development of executive communications, including leadership presentations, talking points, videos, employee updates, and other strategic communications.\nCoach leaders on effective communication practices and approaches for reaching and engaging diverse employee audiences.\nEnsure leadership communications reinforce company strategy, culture, organizational priorities, and OKRs.\nCommunications Operations & Governance\nProvide leadership for internal communications operations, governance, and enterprise communications practices, ensuring consistent and effective delivery across the organization.\nEstablish and continuously improve communications standards, workflows, editorial practices, processes, and channel strategies.\nOversee enterprise communications channels, including intranet platforms, email communications, and other employee communications tools.\nEstablish and manage editorial planning and communications calendars that align resources, messaging, and timing with business priorities.\nSet expectations for communications quality, audience experience, channel use, and editorial consistency.\nIdentify opportunities to simplify processes, improve communications tools, and strengthen the employee communications experience.\nMeasurement & Organizational Impact\nEstablish measures of communications effectiveness that assess audience engagement, message comprehension, and organizational impact.\nUse employee feedback, communications analytics, and organizational insights to evaluate effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.\nMonitor communications and engagement trends and translate findings into actionable recommendations for leaders.\nProvide leadership with insights on communications performance, audience needs, emerging challenges, and opportunities.\nUse measurement and feedback to continuously improve communications strategies, channels, and practices.\nWhat you'll need\n10+ years of experience in internal or corporate communications, with experience supporting complex, matrixed organizations; experience within government, defense, or another highly regulated business environment preferred.\n3+ years of direct people management experience, including responsibility for setting priorities, providing performance feedback, developing talent, and managing team workflows.\nBachelor's degree in Communications, Business, Marketing, Public Relations, English, Journalism, or equivalent experience.\nDemonstrated experience and ability to serve as a strategic communications advisor to senior leaders and influence decisions through communications expertise and business judgment.\nStrong business acumen with the ability to understand complex operational, technical, and organizational topics and translate them into effective communications strategies.\nDemonstrated ability to operate with a high level of autonomy, make sound decisions, balance competing priorities, and take accountability for outcomes.\nExperience leading communications for complex organizational initiatives and change.\nStrong people leadership and coaching capabilities with demonstrated experience building employee capability and increasing team effectiveness.\nExceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear, compelling communications for diverse and global audiences.\nExperience establishing or improving communications processes, governance, channels, or operating practices.\nExperience using communications analytics, employee feedback, and other insights to evaluate effectiveness and inform strategy.\nDemonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and lead cross-functional initiatives without direct authority.\nAbility to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders in a dynamic environment.\nAbility to travel up to 10%.\nWhat will help you on the job\nStrong executive presence and the ability to build credibility as a communications advisor with senior leaders.\nAn empowering, growth-oriented leadership approach and genuine commitment to developing others.\nSound judgment and comfort making recommendations in complex or ambiguous situations.\nAn enterprise mindset with the ability to connect communications priorities to broader business and organizational objectives.\nA collaborative leadership style and ability to build strong partnerships across complex, matrixed organizations.\nA continuous-improvement mindset with the ability to identify opportunities to improve communications practices, processes, and employee experience.\nAbility to move effectively between strategic leadership and hands-on execution when business needs require it.\nSalary range\n$133,000.00 - $210,000.00 / annually.\nFor specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $165,000.00- $248,000.00/ annually\nAt Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
