Both teams focus on developing and supporting the delivery of a monitor and control software, ViaControl, for satellite antenna systems. You will be participating in active software development of device drivers and product features using either a waterfall or agile methodology. We are seeking a Software Engineer with experience working in Python and knowledge of various communication protocols including TCP, SNMP, and REST. An ideal candidate will have the knowledge and desire to support the design, development, implementation, integration, and testing of the ViaControl M&C software.\nThe day-to-day\nYour day-to-day will vary by program phase, but core activities include designing, developing, testing, and documenting device drivers that integrate ViaControl with satellite antenna systems, and configuring and deploying ViaControl across a variety of hardware platforms. You will engage directly with internal and external customers to answer technical questions and resolve operational issues, and work alongside the product development team to contribute to feature development and provide real-world performance feedback. Above all, you will be a collaborative teammate - helping others hit delivery milestones and working through technical challenges together.\nWhat you'll need\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or currently pursuing)\n2+ years of experience writing in Python\nFamiliarity with network communication protocols such as TCP, SNMP, or REST\nFamiliarity with the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)\nAbility to work in a Linux-based environment\nWhat will help you on the job\nExperience with device driver development or hardware integration\nExperience with Ansible or similar configuration management tools\nExposure to satellite communications, ground systems, or aerospace/defense domains\nFamiliarity with agile or waterfall software development methodologies\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills\nClear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams\nEagerness to learn new technologies and adapt to a dynamic environment\nSalary range\n$117,000.00 - $185,000.00 / annually.\nFor specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $145,000.00- $218,000.00/ annually\nAt Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience.
