In many cases these customers require assured communications which include resilient features, integrated security, and the ability to dynamically switch between many communications options. The engineering required to meet these requirements must be rigorous, thoughtful, user focused, and high quality.\nYou will join a software development team that designs, re-factors, and maintains code for existing and upcoming features across one or more product lines while meeting a stringent set of standards for functionality, security, performance through design, development, and testing. As updated standards are released they are deployed across a variety of products and must take into account a variety of competing constraints. Members will be expected to work as part of a team that works with and helps clarify requirements while continuously supporting development, integration, automation, and test of the final product through certification.\nThe day-to-day\nAs an Software Engineer Intern, you'll have the opportunity to learn about and gain experience in:\nSoftware & Software Systems engineering\nBe a part of an agile multidisciplinary development team\nEmbedded systems software engineering\nEmbedded or applications developer\nFront end user interface development engineering, including focus on user experience\nSystem infrastructure development; scripting, automation, data visualization & dashboarding\nInternship Program Details\nViasat’s internship program is site-based. Site-based employees work 3+ days (60%+) per week from a Viasat office or work location within a standard five-day work week. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams. \nTo ensure equity across our intern population, intern compensation is pre-determined based on a variety of factors including: role, location, and degree level. Intern compensation is non-negotiable.\nHousing assistance is available pending eligibility.\nWhat you'll need\nEducation: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Math, and/or a related field. To be eligible for this position, your final graduation date must fall between December 2027 and August 2028.\nInternship Dates: You must be available to work 40 hours/week for the full duration of the internship program. Limited exceptions may be granted. Viasat offers two options based on semester and quarter academic calendars:Cohort 1: May 17, 2027 - August 6, 2027\nCohort 2: June 21, 2027 - September 10, 2027\n\nCitizenship: This position requires U.S. Citizenship.\nAdditional:Previous experience with Object Oriented Programming\nPrevious experience with functional programming\nAbility to pick up new software, frameworks and APIs\nStrong communication and teamwork skills\nExcellent software design, problem solving, and debugging skills\nExperience with or desire to learn Linux\nPrevious experience using C or C++\nFamiliarity with configuration management tools (Git) and development tools (Eclipse, Visual Studio, etc.)\n\nWhat will help you on the job\nExperience with Java or Python\nCourses in software architecture\nCourses with practical software design usage\nExperience with developing software monitoring and control software\nFamiliarity with CI/CD pipelines\nKnowledge of TCP/IP network fundamentals\nDesire to work on network-based products\nFamiliarity with agile development methodologies\nSalary range\n$20.91 - $56.97 / hourly.\nFor specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $25.96 - $67.07/ hourly\nAt Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience.
