We are looking for an optical testing engineer with experience across a broad spectrum of optical systems and technologies. The candidate should have a strong background in automation and optical analysis tools. The ideal candidate will have experience across the complete product life cycle, from design concept and research through development and new product introduction. In addition, customer interaction, technology roadmap development, and standards body activities will be required.\n Duties & Responsibilities\nDevelop testing platforms and automate optical testing solutions for R&D and production.\n\nPerform design verification and characterization of new products or components and generate reports.\n\nPresent test data, analysis, and recommendations to other R&D teams for discussion and feedback.\n\nAssess testing coverage, cycle time, throughput, and efficiency, and provide recommendations on design for testing (DfT).\n\nProvide technical support to test and verify optical systems required as part of the optical test and measurement instrument portfolio.\n\nSupport NPI and the transition of test stations from prototyping to production.\n\nExplore the applicability of new technologies, provide concepts, and contribute to new business development, including product technology life cycle management.\n\nWork with other optical designers in the R&D groups to establish efficiencies through tool selection/consolidation and training.\n\nParticipate in optical and system design reviews.\n\nInteract with vendors and source required components for new products.\n\nPre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.\n\nFamiliarity with optical test equipment, metrology, and calibration methods.\n\nProficiency in software development or scripting in Python and LabVIEW.\n\nExperience with various testing equipment and the ability to develop and set up testing solutions and automation.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nAbility to give and receive constructive criticism.\n\n3+ years of experience in the development of optical test systems and metrology in the fiber optics communications industry or a related field.\n\nKnowledge of modern telecommunications and fiber optic transmission technologies.\n\nProven track record of working with multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams.\n\nExperience with the following types of products: EDFAs, free-space optics, lasers, attenuators, optical spectrum analyzers, optical filters, polarization-maintaining fibers, polarimeters, optical power meters, and passive optical components.\n\nIf you have what it takes to push boundaries and seize opportunities, apply to join our team today.\nVIAVI Solutions is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer - minorities/females/veterans/persons with disabilities.\nJob Posting Pay Range:\n80,752to\n149,968Exceptional qualifications, experience and location may impact salary.
