In this role, you will lead the mechanical design and development of complex product, including advanced optical test, inspection, and measurement products used in laboratory, manufacturing, and field environments.\nYou will work within an international, multidisciplinary engineering team, collaborating closely with optical, electrical, manufacturing, and product engineering groups to develop innovative solutions from concept through production release.\nDuties & Responsibilities:\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign & Development\nLead the mechanical design and development of optical test equipment and systems.\nDevelop innovative solutions for fiber optic connectors, optical inspection products, and measurement systems.\nDesign components and subsystems from concept through production release.\nSystem Integration\nCollaborate closely with optical and electrical engineers to integrate optical systems, electronics, and mechanical assemblies.\nEnsure robust system-level performance through effective cross-functional design.\nPrototyping & Validation\nDesign, build, and evaluate prototypes.\nConduct mechanical testing and verification activities to ensure designs meet functional, reliability, and performance requirements.\nSupport product qualification and validation activities.\nProduct Engineering\nDesign sheet metal enclosures, CNC-machined components, EMI shielding, custom cables, labels, PCB assemblies, and mechanical fixtures.\nApply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to optimize cost, quality, and manufacturability.\nContinuous Improvement\nIdentify opportunities to improve product performance, reliability, and manufacturability.\nDrive engineering best practices and standardization initiatives.\nDocumentation\nCreate and maintain engineering documentation including:3D CAD models\nEngineering drawings\nBills of Materials (BOMs)\nTest plans and procedures\nDesign verification reports\n\nCross-Functional Collaboration\nPartner with R&D, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and product management teams to ensure successful product delivery.\nProvide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.\nPre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.\nSignificant experience in mechanical product design and development.\nStrong proficiency in SolidWorks (or equivalent 3D MCAD software).\nExperience performing tolerance stack-up analysis.\nExperience performing thermal simulation\nStrong knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).\nExperience creating manufacturing drawings and supporting production release.\nFamiliarity with prototype development, including 3D printing and additive manufacturing.\nUnderstanding of the complete product development lifecycle from concept to launch.\nPreferred Skills\nExperience developing optical, test, instrumentation, or electronic products.\nExperience with sheet metal design, CNC machining, molded parts, and electromechanical assemblies.\nBasic understanding of structural analysis and simulation tools.\nKnowledge of manufacturing processes and cost optimization techniques.\nStrong problem-solving and analytical skills.\nAbility to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.\nLeadership Expectations\nProvide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering team members.\nInfluence technical decisions across functional teams.\nContribute to strategic product and technology roadmaps.\nDrive high standards of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.\nIf you have what it takes to push boundaries and seize opportunities, apply to join our team today.\nVIAVI Solutions is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer -
