The ideal candidate will keep management fully informed of plant operations, unusual conditions and faulty equipment. This is a full-time hourly position located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This position requires UWUA Local 369 Union membership and reports to the Operations Manager. The hourly rate for this position is $67.42. There are two vacancies for this position.\n\nResponsibilities\nOperate the combined cycle generating facility and power plant equipment with minimal guidance or assistance.\nKeeps management fully informed of plant operations, unusual conditions, and faulty equipment.\nOperate power plant equipment through control room interfaces or locally.\nTakes readings and maintains records and logs.\nRecords equipment problems on work notifications/requests and documents maintenance actions taken.\nCommunicate and respond to all outside entities including but not limited to Commercial Operations, NStar, and ISO.\nAssists in developing operating procedures.\nUses facility operating procedures to operate equipment and ensure equipment is operated within acceptable parameters.\nOpens and closes valves as required for proper system operation and mechanical isolation.\nOpens and closes circuit breakers up to 480 volts as required for proper system operation and electrical isolation.\nOperate generator breakers manually, if required 115kV disconnects.\nAssist in troubleshooting plant control systems.\nUnderstands and complies with all regulatory procedures and facility safety programs. Follow all plant environmental permits.\nPerforms all duties defined in policies and procedures as assigned, not limited to but including lock-out/tag-out of equipment including responsibility as LOTO Authority, LOTO Holder, and/or Authorized Employee; confined space entry including taking responsibility as Confined Space Authority, Entrant, and/or Attendant.\nConducts and/or prepares and participates in job briefings, job safety analysis and contractor safety orientation.\nDirects, plans, and coordinates the work of others.\nAll activities included under subordinate job classifications within roster.\nAssists other Job Classifications as assigned when combined cycle major equipment and boilers are not in operation.\nCoordinates with the Commercial Operations Station operation in satisfying market demands.\nCoordinates activities requiring interface between on-site auxiliary boiler systems owned by others and the station.\nDevelops and submits internal incident reports as required.\nCoordinates work activities and clearances in accordance with Policies and Procedures not limited to, but including Lock-Out/Tag-out, Confined Space, Hot Work Permits, etc.\nPlans, schedules coordinates, and controls work sequences of shift operations and crafts.\nInstructs and directs activities of other employees while ensuring compliance with company safety and environmental procedures and policies.\nOversees the activities of contracting crews.\nApproves notifications input on-shift.\nConducts shift muster and job briefings with employees and contractors.\nFulfill requirements of and sign MA DPS Shift Log.\nDispatches and coordinates with maintenance activities when required.\nThis position works a rotating shift schedule.\n\nBasic Qualifications \nHigh School Diploma or GED.\nHolds an active MA Second Class Engineer's License.\nMust obtain MA Grade 2 Industrial Wastewater Treatment License in first 6 months of employment.\nMinimum of 6 years of experience operating equipment including gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, heat recovery steam generator, high pressure boilers, air compressors, water treatment equipment, and other auxiliary equipment.\nDemonstrates knowledge of the relationship between plant operations and energy markets.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nDemonstrates knowledge of the relationship between plant operations and energy markets\nAbility to read and interpret Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)\n\nOther Qualifications\nAbility to instruct and direct activities of others\nMust possess basic computer literacy\nHave a good safety record.\n\nPhysical Requirements \nMust submit to a company provided physical and drug screening as part of the pre-employment screening process.\nStanding, sitting, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, walking on uneven surfaces, and grating, working from elevated platforms, scaffolding or ladders, required to lift up to and including 50 pounds and maneuver up to and including 100 pounds.\nMust qualify to wear a respirator.\nAbility to tolerate confined spaces, including manholes and varying temperatures and weather conditions.\nExposed to temperature extremes, high noise level areas, high pressure steam lines, rotating equipment, and dusty/dirty environment.\nRequired to wear PPE such as hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection.","description_format":"text","description_chars":4991,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":6,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"high_school","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Biotechnology","Government","Energy Storage"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-02T00:28:37Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":95,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.946,"p_room":1,"age_days":2,"expected_fill_days":41,"reasons":["conf:15","urgency","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-10-03T05:45:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/vicinity-energy-control-room-operator","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/vicinity-energy-control-room-operator.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-04T02:50:35Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":4279,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":721,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-05T00:00:00Z"}}}
