Prior clearance will not be transferrable.\nThe Environmental Engineer will be matrixed to the JDR programme from the client Quality, Safety, Health, Environment, Risk & Assurance group.\nThe role will provide expert environmental support to the JDR programme, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, alignment with client standards, and delivery of environmental objectives throughout the decommissioning lifecycle.\nPrincipal Accountabilities:\nProvide expert guidance on the JDR decommissioning strategy, including phasing, prioritization, and critical decisions to secure environmental benefits.\nDevelop and maintain the Environmental Management Strategy for assigned projects, ensuring alignment with UKAEA standards and ISO14001.\nEnsure development, implementation, and compliance with technical processes and operating procedures during pre-construction and construction phases.\nAuthor and deliver key environmental documents such as Regulatory Interface Arrangements, Radiological Monitoring Strategy, Carbon Management Strategy, and Sustainability Strategy.\nLead the development of the Environment Case for design and decommissioning activities in coordination with the Safety Case team.\nAct as the intelligent customer for environmental discipline, defining scope and procurement strategy for outsourced environmental studies.\nEnsure environmental requirements are embedded into engineering design and execution through BAT workshops, ENVID processes, and deliverable planning.\nIdentify and assess environmental risks for the JDR programme, develop mitigation strategies, and escalate issues to senior leadership when necessary.\nWork closely with contractors, demolition teams, and facility managers to ensure safe and compliant execution considering radiological, COSHH, and industrial hazards.\nProvide integration across programme areas to optimize resources, avoid overlaps, and ensure environmental aspects are consistently addressed.\nDeliver training and upskilling sessions for teams on environmental legislation, standards, and best practices.\nValidate outputs of environmental studies, monitor compliance, and contribute to the performance evaluation of service providers.\nQualifications\nDegree or equivalent in a relevant subject, environmental and/or engineering qualifications preferred.\nCore Knowledge Areas\nExpert understanding of environmental and sustainability legislation, government standards, and regulatory frameworks.\nIn-depth knowledge of ISO14001 Environmental Management System, including certification processes.\nFamiliarity with Best Available Techniques (BAT) and Environmental Impact Identification (ENVID) methodologies.\nKnowledge of radiation requirements under Environment Agency permits.\nUnderstanding of Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated compliance requirements.\nExperience\nExtensive experience in environmental engineering within large, complex programmes. \nProven track record in decommissioning, demolition, or facility decommissioning environments. \nExperience embedding environmental requirements into engineering design and execution. \nStrong background in project management principles and stakeholder coordination. \nAbility to validate environmental studies and manage performance of service providers.\nSoft Skills\nStrong problem-solving and analytical skills.\nExcellent communication and coordination abilities, both verbal and written.\nConfident influencer capable of producing clear, persuasive reports.\nEffective interpersonal skills for building relationships across diverse teams and levels.\nAbility to coach, mentor, and transfer knowledge proactively.\nEmployee Staff Benefits:\n8.5% Pension Contribution & Life Assurance\nPrivate Medical Scheme*\nEmployee Share Scheme\nSalary Sacrifice Schemes: Electrical Vehicles, Technology and Cycle to Work\n18 Weeks Full Maternity Pay* (+21w SMP)\n25 days holiday (increasing to 28 days after 5 years’ service, 31 days after 10 years’ service)\nOption to buy, sell and carry over up to 5 days annual leave per year\nIn partnership with trade unions\nPersonal Development & Further Education Support\nLong Service & Recognition Awards\nFree Employee Assistance Programme\n*After 1 year of service.\nNuvia -
