Working under the direction of the Senior Estimator / Estimating Manager, you will help build competitive, well-founded tenders by organizing tender documents, completing quantity takeoffs, managing subcontractor and vendor quotes, and developing cost estimates.\nWhen a project is awarded, you will support the handover to construction and may move into a direct project support role, helping with scheduling, cost control, claims and stakeholder communication. This role suits someone who wants exposure to both the estimating and delivery sides of major projects.\nKey Responsibilities of the Role\nEstimating and tender support\nWork independently and as part of the Major Projects estimating team under the direction of the Senior Estimator / Estimating Manager.\nOrganize and manage tender documents, addenda and bid correspondence.\nPerform quantity takeoffs from drawings and specifications.\nSolicit, manage and level subcontractor and vendor quotes.\nIdentify risks and constructability gaps in tender documents.\nBuild comprehensive cost estimates based on available information.\nWork with the engineering team to identify and evaluate design-build solutions.\nWork closely with operations to define means and methods and build preliminary schedules.\nConduct site visits and attend client and stakeholder meetings as required.\nProject transition and support\nOn project award, support the transition to the construction and project delivery teams.\nProvide handover support to the construction team.\nWhere required, move into a direct project support role, assisting with scheduling, claims, cost control and key stakeholder communication.\nHealth and safety\nBe an active participant in SB Canada’s Health and Safety Program, helping to foster a positive safety culture as we continue to move from compliance to care.\nNOTE: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. This technology is used as a support tool, and all hiring decisions are made by our hiring team.\nQualifications - What Will Make You Successful\nEducation\nBachelor's degree or diploma in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or related discipline.\nExperience\n3+ years of estimating, project engineering, project coordination or construction experience in heavy civil, deep foundations, ground improvement, excavation support, tunnelling, or geotechnical construction.\nHands-on experience with quantity takeoffs, quote management and building cost estimates.\nExposure to project delivery activities such as scheduling, cost control or change management.\nExperience in deep foundations, geotechnical or ground engineering works is an asset.\nSoft Skills\nDetail-oriented and accurate, with a methodical approach to estimating.\nAble to work independently and as part of a team under tight tender deadlines.\nClear communicator with engineers, operations, subcontractors and clients.\nCurious and eager to learn from senior estimators and project teams.\nAdaptable when moving between estimating and project support work.\nPreferred Skills\nBilingual in English and French.\nExperience with estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid or B2W, and takeoff tools such as Bluebeam.\nWorking knowledge of scheduling tools such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.\nAdvanced Microsoft Excel skills.\nWillingness to travel across Canada as required.\nRequired Designations or Certifications\nNone required.
