Have significant knowledge and experience of legislation required in this industry and implement it as required.\nWorks to own initiative and will be required to supervise design and graduate engineers and trainees. The principal design engineer will provide appropriate levels of Primary design to a range of different Primary elements as required by the BUGM and their reports.\nPossesses an advanced level of skill and understanding and is able to perform all parts of the task satisfactorily and make judgements and decisions correctly in a variety of situations. Can check work at the highest level.\nTo be responsible for input into IET/ IMechE training scheme as required and to support graduates.\nWill contribute to the development and mentoring a range of staff grads ranging from graduates through to principal designers.\nResponsibilities & Duties\nIncluding but not limited to the following:\nDay to day management of a design team\nUndertake checking of design deliverables.\nThe review and cascading of current industry standards.\nThe Safety, Health and Environmental awareness of all design staff.\nThe quality of ALL design submissions.\nDischarging the responsibilities of the Designer under the 2015 CDM regulations including the principles of prevention.\nWhere required act as Principal Designer under CDM 2015, leading and coordinating the pre-construction phase to ensure risks are identified, mitigated and managed, and that all duty holders fulfil their statutory health and safety responsibilities.\nThe promotion and enforcement of company procedures to design staff.\nThe review of method statements/risk assessments\nThe development and implementation of new industry software where applicable.\nEnsure design deliverables are met and to report on performance to the Head of design or their associates.\nPromote safe by design principles, consider sustainability and low carbon options.\nResponsible and to lead detailed design and calculations in accordance with the relevant standards and procedures, under the direction of the head of design or their associates.\nMay assume the role of Lead Design Engineer (Lead Contractor Design Approval Engineer for LCDAE for NG) on large or complex projects as well as smaller projects as required.\nMay assume the role of Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE) for NG Projects.\nProvide independent design assurance and approval of contractor-produced engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with applicable client standards, industry regulations, and project-specific technical requirements; coordinate specialist input across key disciplines (e.g. plant, protection, and control) or undertake a combined approval role where appropriately authorised.\nAssist the Design Manager with appointing and provide training where necessary and manage design staff in an efficient manner.\nBusiness development with DNOs and TSOs, including prospecting, tendering and delivering design services.\nAssist with the production of design tools and production and review of internal procedures.\nExcellent level of understanding of relevant British Standards and Eurocodes with regard to Primary, design and specification.\nWork closely with other members of the design team to deliver safe, efficient and buildable solutions.\nCollaborate with engineers and technicians from other disciplines, including external consultants where necessary.\nCoordinate with site construction teams, principal designers (2015 CDM) and temporary works coordinators and support constructability reviews.\nSupport tender and tender preparation for projects of all varying sizes including fee estimates.\nProvide support to CAD staff and trainees in their professional development.\nEnsure thorough checking and accuracy of deliverables.\nManage and keep records in accordance with company QA procedures.\nHave responsibility for maintaining calculation and drawing records.\nParticipate in lessons Learnt and knowledge share workshops and share across the organisation and design team.\nAttend in-house design courses and seminars and feedback to the rest of the department if required.\nKeep up to date with IET /IMechE CPD requirements.\nReport to management team as required.\nExcellent team ethic, and ability to work extended hours on occasions when required.\nRepresent Omexom - Design in external project technical meetings if required.\nRepresent Omexom - Design in external events and site visits if required.\nDevelop positive relationships with customers through good professional conduct.\nReview specialist subcontractors/suppliers production calculations and drawings for technical compliance with design intent.\nAbility to work accurately and methodically under pressure and strict deadlines, including the ability to juggle multiple tasks.\nExcellent time and cost management skills to ensure cost effective and accurate delivery.\nEffectively manage own time, and others within small teams across multiple projects and prioritise workload.\nGood communication style and interpersonal skills.\nAbility to work accurately and methodically under pressure and to strict deadlines, including the ability to manage multiple tasks.\nAbility to work well within a team of other professionals in delivering designs to satisfy the agreed brief.
