The primary purpose of the role is to provide technical support to ongoing operations and future programmes, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of engineering services across regulated facilities and infrastructure.\nAuthor, develop, assess, maintain, and manage engineering design substantiation documentation for infrastructure, facilities, and assets within a regulated environment.\nPrepare, evaluate, and manage engineering design changes, modifications, and concessions.\nPresent technical submissions and design substantiation documentation to relevant governance, assurance, and safety review panels.\nDevelop and maintain Examination, Inspection, Maintenance and Testing (EIMT) schedules, operating procedures, and supporting evidence to demonstrate compliance with design and safety requirements throughout the asset lifecycle.\nProduce and assess Periodic Reviews of Safety and associated engineering assurance documentation.\nProvide technical advice, guidance, and direction to internal and external stakeholders.\nDevelop scopes of work for Independent Technical Assessments (ITA) and Independent Peer Reviews (IPR).\nApply a combination of broad and specialist engineering knowledge to support the implementation of existing and emerging technologies.\nApply appropriate engineering principles and practical methods to the design, development, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance, modification, and decommissioning of engineering systems and assets within regulated or high-hazard environments.\nProduce robust technical justifications to support engineering modifications and obtain the necessary approvals.\nReview and assess technical reports, engineering studies, and safety-related submissions.\nEssential:\nExperienced Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in industrial plant, equipment, and machinery, such as pumps, generators, and associated systems.\nSound knowledge of current engineering design standards, codes, and working practices, including relevant British and European Standards.\nDemonstrable theoretical and practical experience across the full project lifecycle, including concept design, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and operational support.\nExperience assessing the design, performance, and suitability of mechanical plant and equipment in challenging or safety-critical environments.\nProven ability to produce robust technical justifications and supporting documentation to facilitate the approval and implementation of engineering design modifications.\nExperience working on multidisciplinary engineering projects, providing mechanical engineering expertise and technical input to project teams.\nExperience with lifting equipment, including overhead travelling cranes (EOT cranes), mobile cranes, and other mechanical handling systems.\nDesirable:\nExperience working within highly regulated or safety-critical industries, such as nuclear, defence, energy, transportation, or other complex engineering environments.\nFamiliarity with safety assessment and risk management techniques, including HAZID and HAZOP studies.\nExperience in the design, assessment, or assurance of safety-related structures, systems, and components.\nKnowledge of engineering regulations, governance frameworks, and industry best practices applicable to high-hazard environments.\nUnderstanding of sector-specific codes, standards, and regulatory requirements relevant to safety-critical engineering projects.\n\nEssential:\nFor non-nuclear background candidates, a Nuclear introductory course would be required to be undertaken within 6 months of joining\nMinimum HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline.\nIncorporated Engineer status or equivalent experience\nDesirable:\nEngineering degree\nChartered Engineer\nWhy us?\nEmployee Staff Benefits:\n8.5% Pension Contribution & Life Assurance\nPrivate Medical Scheme*\nEmployee Share Scheme\nSalary Sacrifice Schemes: Electrical Vehicles, Technology and Cycle to Work\n18 Weeks Full Maternity Pay* (+21w SMP)\n25 days holiday (increasing to 28 days after 5 years’ service, 31 days after 10 years’\nservice)\nOption to buy, sell and carry over up to 5 days annual leave per year\nIn partnership with trade unions\nPersonal Development & Further Education Support\nLong Service & Recognition Awards\nFree Employee Assistance Programme\n*After 1 year of service.\nNUVIA UK -
