The engineer will build and deliver robust, scalable Java systems, solve complex legacy and production issues, and translate business and system requirements into scalable, stable and fit-for-purpose technical solutions. \n\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES \nFunctional / Technical \nDevelop and deliver solutions with Java, EJB, Spring Boot, MySQL, Oracle and IBM MQ. \n\nUnderstand business and system requirements and translate them into scalable, stable and fit-for-purpose technical solutions. \n\nAnalyse, design, code and implement complex, custom-built applications. \n\nTackle complex legacy defects that are difficult to analyse and resolve. \n\nInvestigate and resolve production issues to maintain a stable production environment, remaining calm and effective in a crisis. \n\nEnsure adherence to bank standards, including code, security and performance. \n\nWork collaboratively with the team in Agile methodologies such as Scrum and/or Extreme Programming. \n\nCommunicate highly technical issues clearly to non-technical audiences. \n\nBuild a reputation for technical strength by helping solve problems others struggle with. \n\nRegulatory Responsibilities & Risk Management \nDemonstrate appropriate values and behaviours, including honesty and integrity, due care and diligence, fair dealing, management of conflicts of interest, competence and continuous development, adequate risk management, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. \n\nTake responsibility for identifying and closely managing risks and issues, and drive stakeholders to deliver on time and to the required quality standards. \n\nSKILLS REQUIREMENTS \nProfessional \nWell organised, with the ability to prioritise and carry out multiple tasks. \n\nAble to influence and drive projects to meet key milestones and overcome challenges. \n\nAble to translate functional requirements into efficient, fit-for-purpose technical solutions. \n\nPreferably, experience in the finance / banking or public sector domain. \n\nTechnical - Must Have \nCore Java and JUnit. \n\nSpring Boot and Spring core concepts. \n\nStrong computer science knowledge (algorithms, data structures, object-oriented design). \n\nTDD; able to write acceptance tests. \n\nBasic Linux shell scripting commands. \n\nJava messaging concepts (JMS, MQ). \n\nRelational database concepts and SQL (joins, indexes, triggers etc.), including SQL query optimisation. \n\nWeb services: REST and SOAP. \n\nBasic DevOps and AWS cloud experience (CI/CD, containerisation, common AWS services). \n\nFamiliarity with IntelliJ, Git and SonarQube / SonarLint. \n\nTechnical - Desirable \nJBoss (or any other application server) knowledge. \n\nJava Server Faces, JPA and EJB knowledge. \n\nAbility to write and understand complex SQL queries. \n\nKafka. \n\nReact JS. \n\nPersonal & Social \nGood communication skills. \n\nGood work ethic and punctuality. \n\nGood problem-solving abilities. \n\nGood team player. \n\nHOW TO APPLY \nPlease submit an updated CV highlighting your Java and banking / public sector experience, together with your current location, notice period and earliest availability to  \nVionData Partners is an equal opportunity employer.
