Faculty are encouraged to explore emerging real estate trends, present at national and international conferences, engage in timely policy debate, and contribute to the professionalization of the real estate industry at large.

At present, the department serves approximately 400 undergraduate students pursuing B.S. Real Estate degrees who complete a core business curriculum coupled with a series of courses introducing them to the fundamentals of real estate development, finance, law, market analysis, operations, and planning. The curriculum also provides students with opportunities to pursue double majors or minors in real estate-adjacent fields while still graduating within four years.

As one of seven departments in the Pamplin College of Business, the Blackwood Department of Real Estate and its faculty contribute to the Pamplin+ initiative, which focuses on technology readiness and workforce preparation from the time students enroll in the college until the time they graduate.
