The candidates will utilize both in vitro and in vivo model systems to investigate how hepatitis E virus invades the central and peripheral nervous systems to cause neurological injuries leading to various neurological sequalae. The candidates will delineate the molecular, immunological and inflammatory mechanisms associated with hepatitis E virus infection in cells of neurovascular unit, and evaluate the effect of inhibitor(s) on therapeutic intervention of HEV-related neurological sequelae.
