This position is an integral part of the WVTF/Radio IQ Engineering team. This is a remote position that primarily takes place at transmitter sites in Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Charlottesville areas.\nThe primary responsibilities include transmitter site maintenance, site documentation, transmission alarms, site projects, and studio support. Responsibilities include but not limited to RF transmitter maintenance and troubleshooting, studio transmitter link maintenance and troubleshooting, building maintenance, cleaning, documentation, verification of operations, audio monitoring, simple networking and IT troubleshooting.\nThis position requires the ability to be a self-starter, work independently, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, knowledge in schematic diagrams, scheduling and working with vendors, and the ability to use electronic test equipment.\nRequired Qualifications\nDemonstrated experience in RF transmitter maintenance or related technical field.\nDemonstrated experience in electronics troubleshooting and test equipment usage.\nDemonstrated experience with building maintenance, grounds maintenance and hand tool use.\nDemonstrated experience with IT networking.\nStrong attention to detail and the ability to multitask.\nStrong interpersonal and communication skills.\nMust have a valid driver’s license and maintain solid driving record.\nMust have reliable transportation.\nPreferred Qualifications\nAbility to use volt ohm meter, oscilloscope, misc. test equipment.\nSociety of Broadcast Engineer certification a plus.\nPractical knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC and basic construction techniques are helpful.\nFamiliarity with NPR and public broadcasting, WVTF Public Radio/RADIO IQ and its broadcast coverage area.\nExperience working for a state university or non-profit organization.\nPay Band\n3\nOvertime Status\nNon-Exempt: Eligible for overtime\nAppointment Type\nRestricted\nSalary Information\n$30.00 - $35.00 per hour\nHours per week\n25-30 hours per week\nReview Date\nNovember 8th, 2026\nAdditional Information\nHearing\nModerate to Heavy Lifting (25+lbs)\nWorking in outside elements (Ex: weather)\nSafe Driving Record\nConsiderable Walking, Standing, Bending, Stooping\nVision (i.e., discern colors, contrast, depth)\nHand/Finger dexterity\nRoutine Travel or Telework - (50% or more travel)\nMileage paid per yearly federal mileage rate\nOn call as assigned\nBasic hand tools will be provided\nEngineering Laptop will be provided\nThe successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.\nAbout Virginia Tech\nDedicated to its motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve), Virginia Tech pushes the boundaries of knowledge by taking a hands-on, transdisciplinary approach to preparing scholars to be leaders and problem-solvers.
