Hybrid working is optional.\nWe encourage all applicants to apply as soon as possible as we may close vacancies early if we receive a high number of applications.\nThis is a key role responsible for the management and optimisation of fuel supply contracts, ensuring contractual obligations are met while maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance, environmental performance, and commercial efficiency.\nWorking closely with operational teams, fuel suppliers, hauliers, contractors, and customers, you will play a pivotal role in securing fuel supply, managing contract performance, mitigating risk, and building strong stakeholder relationships.\nWhat You'll Be Doing\nAs Contracts Manager, you will:\nManage all fuel supply contracts, including Local Authority, Commercial & Industrial, and merchant fuel agreements.\nEnsure contractual, regulatory, legal, and company compliance requirements are fully met.\nMonitor and evaluate contract performance, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.\nDevelop and maintain contract risk registers and mitigation plans.\nWork closely with site operations teams to ensure fuel availability meets operational requirements.\nManage relationships with fuel suppliers, hauliers, customers, and key stakeholders.\nDevelop contingency plans to maintain fuel supply during planned and unplanned outages.\nSource fuel in line with budget, commercial targets, quality specifications, and Net Calorific Value (NCV) requirements.\nLead contractual discussions and negotiations to achieve optimal commercial outcomes.\nMonitor and report on contractual performance, implementing improvements where required.\nMaintain accurate contract documentation, correspondence, status reports, and change records.\nAct as the primary contractual contact for Local Authority, Commercial & Industrial, and merchant customers.\nSupport and deputise for the Head of Contracts and provide support across regions as needed.\nHealth, Safety & Environment\nSafety is at the heart of everything we do. In this role, you will:\nTake full accountability for preventing incidents that could impact health, safety, or the environment.\nPromote a strong safety culture across all contractual activities.\nEnsure compliance with all relevant legislation, company policies, and environmental standards.\nEscalate any significant health, safety, or environmental concerns as required.\nWhat We're Looking For\nEssential Knowledge & Experience\nStrong contract management experience.\nCommercial contract negotiation and management expertise.\nExperience managing complex contracts, payment mechanisms, and performance frameworks.\nKnowledge of budgeting, forecasting, profit and loss accounts, and financial reporting.\nProven experience building and managing client relationships.\nStrong commercial acumen with the ability to identify and deliver value.\nExperience working with multiple stakeholders and managing competing priorities.\nEssential Skills\nExcellent communication and relationship-building skills.\nConfident negotiator with strong influencing abilities.\nHighly organised with strong attention to detail.\nStrong analytical and problem-solving capability.\nAbility to produce high-quality reports and present information to a range of audiences.\nProficient in Microsoft Office applications.\nAbility to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.\nSelf-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.\nDesirable\nExperience within the waste management, environmental services, energy, or resource recovery sectors.\nKnowledge of waste industry legislation and compliance requirements.\nExperience of Local Authority contract delivery.\nTender preparation, submission, and bid management experience.\nWeighbridge system experience.\nExperience implementing new systems and operational processes.\nNEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent health and safety qualification.\nDegree-level education or a recognised management qualification.\nQualifications\nEssential\nFull UK Driving Licence.\nGCSE Grade 4/C or above in English and Mathematics (or equivalent).\nDesirable\nDegree-level qualification or equivalent.\nManagement qualification.\nHealth & Safety qualification (NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent).\nHow to apply\nClick apply at the bottom of the page and you will be asked to create a profile.
