We play a crucial role in supporting the UK's climate goals by diverting waste from landfills and transforming it into valuable energy resources.\nWe have an opportunity in Avonmouth for a Day Shift Team Leader to join our team working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.\nThe salary for this role will be £65,363 per year, and participation in an annual bonus scheme,in addition to our great range of benefits.\nThe closing date for applications is 20th October 2026. We encourage all applicants to apply as soon as possible as we may close vacancies early if we receive a high number of applications.\nAsDay Shift Team Leader, you'll provide leadership and direction to the day operations team and take responsibility for the safe and effective operation of key areas of the facility, including the Tipping Hall, IBA Hall and Weighbridge.\nSafety will be central to everything you do. You'll act as a Senior Authorised Person (SAP), or work towards achieving SAP status, helping to maintain robust Safe Systems of Work across the facility.\nYour responsibilities will include:\nLeading, supporting and developing the day shift operations team.\nEnsuring all activities are carried out safely and in accordance with SHEQ requirements and site procedures.\nSupervising operations across the Tipping Hall, IBA Hall and Weighbridge.\nPrioritising workloads to maximise plant efficiency, availability, waste input and energy output.\nManaging Safe Systems of Work and issuing relevant permits and safety documentation.\nCarrying out risk assessments and supporting the continued improvement of safe working practices.\nCoordinating contractors and ensuring visitors and contractors receive appropriate site safety and emergency inductions.\nManaging the delivery of process consumables and collection of operational by-products.\nEnsuring the facility operates within its environmental permit requirements.\nSupporting incident reporting, investigations and emergency preparedness, including acting as Incident Controller when required.\nCoordinating training and competency requirements for the Day Shift Team.\nManaging team performance, development, absence and shift cover.\nLeading regular team briefings and ensuring effective communication across the operation.\nIdentifying and driving continuous improvement opportunities across safety, training, housekeeping and operational performance.\nSupporting the Operations Manager and providing cover when required.\nManaging mobile plant activities, including daily checks, defect management and statutory inspections.\nWhat are we looking for?\nYou'll be an experienced operational professional who is comfortable leading people within a safety-critical environment.\nYou'll ideally bring:\nEssential\nPrevious experience within a process, power generation or similar industrial environment.\nExperience working with Safe Systems of Work, including Permits to Work and associated safety documentation.\nA good understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements within a process or power environment.\nAn engineering qualification, ideally ONC/HNC or equivalent.\nA relevant safety qualification, ideally IOSH or NEBOSH.\nStrong leadership, organisational and problem-solving skills.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to deliver team briefings, detailed handovers and concise reports.\nGood IT skills and experience working with computerised systems.\nIt would be great if you also have:\nPrevious experience coordinating or supervising operational teams and contractors.\nKnowledge of environmental permitting requirements within an industrial environment.\nExperience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).\nPrevious Senior Authorised Person (SAP) experience covering mechanical, HV and LV electrical safety.\nIf you don't already hold full SAP authorisation, you'll be expected to work towards achieving SAP status for both LV plant and apparatus and HV authorisations.\nWhat you'll bring to the team\nWe're looking for someone who can lead from the front, set high standards and create a positive working environment where people feel empowered to raise issues, suggest improvements and work together to find solutions.\nYou'll have a strong commitment to safety, be comfortable making operational decisions and have the ability to balance people leadership, plant performance and environmental compliance.\nIf you're looking for your next leadership opportunity within Energy Recovery and want to play a key role in the safe and successful operation of our Avonmouth facility, we'd love to hear from you.\nHow to apply\nClick apply at the bottom of the page and you will be asked to create a profile.
