We play a crucial role in supporting the UK's climate goals by diverting waste from landfills and transforming it into valuable energy resources.\nWe have an opportunity in GRREC, Glasgow for a Shift Technician to join our team working 40 hours per week (5 week shift pattern, days, nights & weekends)\nThe salary for this role will be £43,871 per year, plus shift allowance of £6,594, and participation in an annual bonus scheme,in addition to our great range of benefits.\nThe closing date for applications is 4th December 2026. We encourage all applicants to apply as soon as possible as we may close vacancies early if we receive a high number of applications.\nWe are looking for a motivated and safety-focused Shift Operations Technician to join our Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) team at GRECC, Glasgow. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the safe and efficient operation of a state-of-the-art energy recovery plant, helping to transform waste into valuable energy.\nWorking as part of a multi-skilled operations team, you will be responsible for monitoring and controlling plant processes from the central control room and carrying out operational activities across the site. You'll contribute to maximising plant performance, maintaining environmental compliance, and ensuring the highest standards of health and safety.\nWhat You'll Be Doing:\nAs a Shift Operations Technician, you will:\nOperate and monitor the plant through the DCS/SCADA control systems.\nManage alarms and identify opportunities to improve plant performance.\nEnsure the safe operation of the plant within environmental permit requirements.\nSupport the delivery of operational KPIs, maximising waste throughput and electricity export.\nDiagnose and rectify process and equipment faults through monitoring, analysis and troubleshooting.\nCarry out routine inspections, testing and frontline maintenance activities.\nMonitor boiler water chemistry and ensure operational compliance.\nComplete plant isolations and work safely within permit-to-work systems.\nMaintain accurate shift logs and provide detailed handovers to incoming teams.\nMonitor stock levels and supervise bulk deliveries and loading operations.\nCoordinate and direct contractors, visitors, and personnel working on site.\nSupport plant start-ups, shutdowns, outages and emergency response activities.\nRaise and manage defects within the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).\nCarry out risk assessments and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.\nEnsure compliance with company Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Management Systems.\nSupport visitor inductions and promote a strong safety culture across the site.\nWhat We're Looking For:\nEssential Experience & Knowledge\nExperience working in a mechanical, electrical, industrial or process plant environment.\nUnderstanding of safe systems of work, including plant isolations and permit-to-work processes.\nStrong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.\nGood computer literacy and confidence using operational systems.\nExcellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a shift team.\nGood numeracy and literacy skills.\nA recognised health and safety qualification, ideally IOSH or NEBOSH.\nDesirable Experience\nExperience within a process plant, energy-from-waste, power generation or similar industrial environment.\nKnowledge of environmental permitting or PPC-regulated operations.\nExperience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).\nAbility to prepare operational reports and documentation.\nUnderstanding of relevant health, safety and environmental legislation.\nCareer Development:\nWe are committed to investing in our people and supporting long-term career progression.
