The problems you will solve are deep, complex, and essential to keeping a global-scale organization moving.\nThe Role\nWe are hiring an SRE Support Engineer who is exceptionally strong in:\nLinux fundamentals\nLinux networking\nContainerization (Docker)\nKubernetes (internal/private cloud, multi-form experience preferred)\nThis is a hands-on, engineering-level support role focused on helping internal developers adopt, debug, and succeed with the client’s internal compute platform. You’ll work at the intersection of Kubernetes, containers, and low-level Linux troubleshooting, engaging directly with engineers to resolve issues that often require deep system understanding.\nThis is not generic L1/L2 support, it’s high-trust technical engineering work with some of the most innovative developers in the industry.\nKey Responsibilities\nPlatform & Customer Support\nSupport internal customers using the compute platform through:\nHigh-touch white-glove onboarding\n\nSlack/community forum and ticketing system responses\n\nDeep technical troubleshooting\n\nAct as the first line of engineering support for Kubernetes- and container-related issues.\nTechnical Investigation & Resolution\nTroubleshoot, isolate, and resolve issues across:\nKubernetes workloads, scheduling, services, networking, RBAC\n\nDocker containers, images, builds, and runtime environments\n\nLinux servers, systemd behavior, filesystem issues, resource constraints\n\nNetworking (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls)\n\nLinux & Networking Deep-Dive\nInvestigate issues inside Linux systems using tools such as:\n\ntcpdump, ss, strace, traceroute, dig, journalctl, top, htop\n\nDocumentation & Communication\nWrite clear, concise technical tickets, incident summaries, and runbooks.\n\nCreate knowledge base articles and contribute to ongoing documentation improvements.\n\nParticipate in postmortems and drive follow-up actions.\n\nCross-Team Collaboration\nWork with SRE, Platform, and Engineering teams to escalate issues, identify platform bugs, and propose improvements.\n\nProvide high-quality, structured feedback based on trends in support interactions.\n\nOperational Excellence\nUphold a strong emphasis on detail, organization, independence, and quality.\n\nContribute to building tools, scripts, and processes that improve support efficiency.\n\nRequired Skills & Experience\nCore Technical\nStrong Linux fundamentals (processes, services, filesystem, kernel basics).\n\nStrong Linux networking (TCP/IP, routing, DNS, load balancers, firewalls).\n\nHands-on Kubernetes experience - ideally beyond managed cloud platforms.\n\nStrong Docker/containerization expertise.\n\nExperience in production support for large-scale systems.\n\nSoftware & Scripting\nAbility to write and understand Python scripts (or similar languages).\n\nComfortable reviewing PRs, reading developer code, and communicating with dev teams.\n\nStrong Git proficiency.\n\nCommunication & Work Style\nExceptional written and spoken English (must be extremely clear).\n\nHighly organized, meticulous attention to detail, and consistent follow-through.\n\nStrong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and structured debugging ability.\n\nComfortable working independently with distributed teams.\n\nPreferred\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar engineering discipline.\n\nExperience supporting private cloud or internal platform engineering teams.\n\nFamiliarity with Spark, Kafka, or distributed systems.\n\nWhy This Role Is Exciting\nYou will support systems used by every developer at a global company.\n\nYou will learn more here in 6 months than in years at a typical engineering org.\n\nYou’ll solve deeply technical problems at the intersection of containers, networking, and distributed systems.\n\nWhy Join Virtasant\nFreedom to Grow.
