Progress starts with you.\nJob Description\nSenior Counsel will be responsible for providing legal support a variety of internal clients in Visa's Canada Office.\nAccountabilities:\nDraft, negotiate, and review complex commercial contracts and other legally binding documents\nProvide advice and counsel in the interpretation and enforcement of contracts.\nProvide advice on regulatory issues including the Retail Payments Activities Act, the Code of Conduct for the Payment Card Industry in Canada and regulatory regimes affecting Visa’s Canadian clients (e.g. the Bank Act, OSFI guidelines, etc.)\nSupport regulatory compliance and Visa’s relationship with the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) and the Bank of Canada.\nVisa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.\nQualifications\nBasic Qualifications:\n8 years of relevant experience.\nJuris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.\nCurrent member in good standing of a State Bar with the ability to become barred or a registered in-house counsel in the state where this role is located.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nRequired Education: JD or LLB with strong academic credentials and admitted to Ontario Bar.\nExperience: 8+ years experience in top law firm and/or in-house environments.\nSignificant experience drafting, negotiating and interpreting complex commercial agreements\nExperience with regulations affecting the payments/financial services industry, including knowledge of the Retail Payments Activities Act, the Bank Act, anti-money laundering and consumer protection\nStrong people skills with proven ability to build strong working relationships with internal clients at all levels of management and work on cross functional teams.\nVersatility, ability to prioritize and handle a large number of matters, ability to work effectively and collegially on a small legal team with significant workload.\nSelf starter and ability to work independently.\nVisa is an EEO Employer\nQualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or protected veteran status.
