You will work alongside all engineering functions to make significant contributions to the electrical design of our capital hardware and instrument including (but not limited to) power electronics, control systems, sensors, high-speed communication, redundancy and network architecture. You're a strong communicator and team player, ready to coordinate with our cross-functional team to make sure we hit deliverables.\nWhat you'll do:\nParticipates in the research and development of electronic components, printed circuit boards (PCBA), and electrical systems for the Company's medical devices and associated capital hardware.\n\nOwn full lifecycle design of mixed power, embedded computing and interconnect PCAs. Test designs at the PCA and system level using relevant test tools. Engage with vendors productively. Clearly document analyses, architectural decisions, and test results.\n\nTakes part in planning, designing, development, testing, and design reviews of electronic and electrical systems for the Company's medical devices and associated capital hardware.\n\nParticipate in and lead design reviews and analyses (safety, reliability, failure, etc.) to develop robust architectures driven by simulation, analysis, and testing. Provide detailed architecture, schematic, and layout review to peers.\n\nInfluence planning, timelines, and goals for projects including new technology and process development.\n\nInfluence system architecture and participate in testing for medical safety and compliance per IEC60601-1 and related standards.\n\nProvides feedback on electrical test requirements to the manufacturing test team as required.\n\nCoordinates with firmware teams on correct electrical system implementation in software.\n\nUtilizes test equipment to conduct experimental tests, evaluate electronic designs, and perform design verification.\n\nCreates test reports to document work results.\n\nEmbraces the Design Control process by participating in design reviews and maintaining design history files.\n\nParticipates in evaluating the reliability of materials, properties and techniques used in production.\n\nMentor and guide engineers with varying levels of experience. Effectively collaborate with peers beyond electrical engineering.\n\nWhat you'll need:\nBachelor's degree with 10+ years, Masters with 8+ years, or other equivalent experience in electrical engineering or a related field.\n\nProficient in Altium Designer (or similar) for schematic capture and PCB layout.\n\nKnowledgeable on design for power integrity, signal integrity, fault tolerance, and EMC.\n\nStrong design experience with embedded systems, sensors, serial communication, and analog and digital electrical systems.\n\nExperience designing power distribution systems, current limiting, power regulation, fusing, FET selection, PWM frequency trade-offs, gate slew rate trade-offs, etc.\n\nExperience designing and bringing hardware to market, including undergoing compliance testing.\n\nProficient in using common electrical test equipment, e.g., DMM, oscilloscope, function generator, DC power supply.\n\nKnowledge of Good Documentation Practices (GDP).\n\nBonus points for:\nBackground in working in Optics, Robotics and/or Medical Device industry.\n\nExperience working on systems containing various rigid & flexible PCAs connected with dynamic cabling (e.g. clock spring cabling, flex boards & FFCs, slip rings, etc.).\n\nCapable of architecting systems containing brushless DC motors.\n\nExpertise in designing safety-critical and fail-safe systems, including isolation diagrams.\n\nAppreciation of puns!\n\nWhy Join Us?\nAt Vital Bio, you will:\nWork at the intersection of advanced hardware engineering and life-changing medical technology.\n\nYou will design and deliver complex electrical systems-from embedded computing to safety-critical architectures-while owning projects end-to-end and influencing system-level decisions.\n\nWe are a highly collaborative team where your ideas shape both technical direction and product outcomes.\n\nIf you enjoy solving challenging problems, working across disciplines, and building reliable systems that make a real-world impact, you will thrive here.\n\nThe salary range for this position is $110,000-$140,000 annually.
