About the role
Our client is a global clean energy technology business, specialising in energy storage solutions and electric mobility infrastructure. It is looking to appoint an experienced freelance Site Manager to support the delivery of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Brussels, Belgium. The engagement starts in January 2027 and runs for 12 months.
This is a client-side, coordination-focused role. The successful candidate will oversee several EPC contractors across the project lifecycle, keeping construction, installation and electrical works safe, on schedule and to the required quality. The role is not hands-on commissioning, but a strong understanding of commissioning processes is important, as you will support and coordinate commissioning, testing and handover.
You will manage site personnel and contractor interfaces, keep communication clear across all stakeholders, and monitor schedule, quality and HSE compliance, acting early to reduce risks and delays. Regular progress reporting, documentation management and issue resolution are a core part of the role, which is based full time on site in Brussels.
Main responsibilities
- Provide client-side coordination of multiple EPC contractors across the BESS project lifecycle
- Oversee on-site construction, installation and electrical works to make sure they are carried out safely and efficiently
- Support and coordinate commissioning activities, testing and project handover
- Monitor schedule, quality and HSE compliance, and proactively reduce risks and delays
- Manage site personnel and contractor interfaces, keeping communication effective across stakeholders
- Provide regular progress reporting and manage project documentation
- Resolve issues as they arise throughout project delivery
Requirements
Essential
- Eligibility to work in Belgium as a freelancer, with an EU passport or Belgian residency
- Electrical background
- Commissioning experience, with a strong understanding of commissioning processes
- Experience coordinating contractors on site
- Fluent English
- Availability to work full time on site in Brussels from January 2027
Desirable
- BESS or solar project experience (highly beneficial)
- Dutch language skills
