The role focuses on extending and maintaining the software that drives wafer and panel metrology products, the systems used to measure and inspect components during semiconductor manufacturing.\nYou will work across the full development cycle, from gathering requirements and analysing the problem through to implementation, testing, installation and support. Day to day, that means designing and building new features, writing automated tests, developing the tooling that supports the product and tracking down and fixing bugs.\nThe role also involves supporting colleagues who are not developers, as well as field engineers who use and service the systems. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently within a small team, taking the initiative to move work forward and explaining technical points clearly to a mixed audience.\nMain responsibilities\nAnalyse, design and implement new features for wafer and panel metrology software\nCreate automated tests to protect quality and support ongoing development\nDevelop and maintain supporting tooling used by the wider team\nAnalyse, diagnose and fix bugs\nTake work through the full development cycle, including requirements gathering, analysis, implementation, testing, installation and support\nCreate and maintain UML models to document designs\nProvide support to non-developer team members and field engineers\nWork with version control to manage code changes and collaborate within the team\nRequirements\nEssential\n3 to 10 years of experience in a software engineering role\nGood knowledge of modern C++\nExperience of using a version control system, preferably git\nUnderstanding of UML models and the ability to create them\nExperience of the full development cycle, from requirements to installation and support\nGood spoken and written English communication skills\nAble to work independently within a small team\nProactive approach, with the initiative to take ownership of tasks\nDesirable\nKnowledge of C# and/or Python\nKnowledge of image processing, automation or robotics\nThe offer\nFreelance contract working on software for semiconductor metrology products\nVaried scope, from new feature development to tooling and support\nSmall team environment with room to take initiative\nThis role suits a software engineer with a solid C++ background who enjoys owning work from requirements through to support and wants to work on technically demanding products in the semiconductor sector.
