The majority ofyour working week will be in our collaborative office environment.\n\nAbout the role\nVMIA is the Victorian Government’s insurer and risk adviser, covering the people, places and projects that help Victorians thrive.\nAs our Data Platform Engineer, you’ll help build and maintain the infrastructure that supports VMIA’s data and digital initiatives. You’ll write clean, maintainable code, develop clear documentation and support the deployment of secure, reliable data infrastructure.\nWorking within the Data and Analytics team in the Business Performance Division, you’ll gain hands-on experience in software engineering, data governance and enterprise data platforms, with guidance from experienced data professionals.\nKey responsibilities\nHelp build and maintain Snowflake databases, schemas, warehouses, tables and stored procedures using Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Pulumior Terraform.\n\nWrite Python and SQL to support deployment scripts, stored procedures and data ingestion pipelines.\n\nAssist with consistent, repeatable deployments across development, test and production environments.\n\nContribute to platform configurations using YAML and JSON.\n\nImplement and maintain role-based access controls, including role hierarchies, permissions and access policies, under senior guidance.\n\nSupport infrastructure configuration to improve platform scalability, security and cost control.\n\nWrite and maintain automated tests and help support and troubleshoot continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.\n\nUse Git and GitHub to contribute through branching, code reviews and pull requests.\n\nMaintain clear documentation, identify and escalate risks or issues, and follow relevant policies and controls.\n\nWhat we are looking for\nYou’re curious about how systems work and keen to build your career in data platform engineering.
