As the highest level of operational escalation, the SNE Transmission Engineer leads complex fault diagnosis, restoration, problem management, and service assurance activities to minimise network impact and maximise service availability.\nThe role also develops operational capability through coaching, mentoring, knowledge transfer, and technical training, helping build a highly skilled workforce capable of supporting critical telecommunications services in a 24x7 environment.\nWorking closely with Engineering, Delivery, Field Services, Vendors, and Customer Operations teams, the SNE Transmission Engineer drives operational excellence, improves network reliability, and ensures support readiness across critical and mission-critical services.\n*Australian Citizenship is mandatory as part of the criteria for NV1 clearance. You must fit all the criteria be eligible for NV1 clearance.\n\nWhat you’ll be doing day-to-day\nTransmission Network Operations\nProvide senior technical support and operational oversight across the transmission network.\nMonitor network performance, capacity, availability, and resilience.\nSupport carrier-grade transmission infrastructure and technologies.\nReview alarms, events, and trends to identify operational risks.\nLead technical investigations into complex faults and service impacts.\nMaintain operational readiness across supported platforms.\nTechnical Leadership and Escalation\nAct as the highest-level operational escalation point for transmission incidents.\nLead diagnosis and resolution of complex network faults.\nProvide expert guidance to engineers and operational teams.\nSupport decision-making during major incidents and restoration activities.\nCoordinate cross-functional teams to resolve service disruptions.\nMentor and coach engineers to strengthen transmission capability.\nParticipate in technical governance and architecture reviews where required.\nServe as the subject matter expert for transmission technologies.\nDrive engineering best practices and operational standards.\nTraining, Coaching and Capability Development\nAct as a technical mentor across engineering teams.\nSupport onboarding and technical development of new employees.\nDevelop and maintain training plans and competency frameworks.\nDeliver technical training covering transmission platforms, fault management, restoration, and operational processes.\nConduct knowledge-sharing workshops and technical briefings.\nIdentify capability gaps and develop targeted learning initiatives.\nCreate and maintain training materials, documentation, and runbooks.\nProvide coaching to enhance troubleshooting and analytical skills.\nFacilitate post-incident knowledge transfer and lessons learned.\nSupport career development, succession planning, and graduate/junior engineer programs.\nAssist leaders in evaluating technical competency and development requirements.\nFoster a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.\nIncident and Service Restoration\nLead transmission fault management for critical and high-priority incidents.\nDrive restoration efforts to minimise customer and network impact.\nCoordinate internal teams, carriers, vendors, and field resources during outages.\nSupport major incident management and recovery activities.\nEnsure timely communication and escalation of significant issues.\nParticipate in incident reviews and post-incident analysis.\nDevelop preventative measures to reduce recurrence.\nService Assurance and Performance Management\nMonitor and analyse network performance and service quality.\nIdentify emerging risks, recurring faults, and degradation trends.\nDrive improvements in availability, resilience, and customer experience.\nEnsure compliance with KPIs, SLAs, and operational objectives.\nSupport capacity management and performance optimisation.\nRecommend improvements to network stability and operational effectiveness.\nProblem Management and Continuous Improvement\nLead root cause analysis for major incidents and recurring faults.\nDevelop and implement permanent corrective actions.\nIdentify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements.\nDrive proactive maintenance and network health initiatives.\nMaintain operational standards, procedures, and technical documentation.\nContribute to service improvement and operational maturity programs.\nChange and Operational Readiness\nAssess operational impacts of planned network changes.\nReview and approve high-risk transmission activities.\nSupport change planning, implementation, and validation.\nEnsure teams are prepared to support new services and technologies.\nParticipate in change governance and implementation reviews.\nValidate operational readiness for upgrades and new service introductions.\nVendor and Stakeholder Management\nWork closely with vendors, carriers, and support partners.\nManage technical escalations relating to transmission services.\nEngage with Engineering, Service Delivery, Customer Operations, and Program teams.\nProvide technical reporting and recommendations to stakeholders.\nSupport customer-facing technical discussions where required.\nBuild strong relationships across internal and external stakeholder groups.\n\nWhat you’ll bring to the role\n8+ years' experience in Telecommunications Network Operations, Service Assurance, or Transmission Engineering.\nStrong experience supporting carrier-grade transmission networks.\nExperience with large-scale fibre transport and optical networks.\nExperience supporting Government, Defence, Emergency Services, or Critical Infrastructure networks.\nProven capability troubleshooting complex faults in live environments.\nExperience supporting large-scale telecommunications infrastructure.\nDemonstrated leadership in incident resolution and service restoration.\nExperience coaching, mentoring, and developing technical teams.\nExperience producing training materials, procedures, and documentation.\nStrong understanding of 24x7 operational
