You will collaborate with business owners, application owners and technical specialists to understand objectives, functional and non-functional requirements, dependencies and constraints.\nYou will define practical modernisation strategies, evaluate solution options and translate application needs into secure, scalable and resilient platform designs. The role requires extensive expertise across application architecture, DevOps, cloud platforms, containerisation, infrastructure as code and continuous delivery.\nWhat you’ll do\nLead application discovery and assessment across architecture, integrations, dependencies, databases, infrastructure and operational requirements.\nFacilitate discovery workshops, architecture reviews and technical discussions with business and technical stakeholders.\nCapture business objectives, functional requirements, non-functional requirements, constraints and expected outcomes.\nDefine application migration and modernisation strategies using approaches such as Rehost, Replatform, Refactor, Retain, Retire and Repurchase.\nResearch and evaluate solution options, recommending effective development and implementation patterns with an open-source-first approach where appropriate.\nProduce high-level designs, low-level designs, architecture diagrams, deployment models, dependency maps and technical recommendations.\nTranslate application requirements into platform requirements covering compute sizing, storage, connectivity, load balancing, DNS, databases, security, high availability, disaster recovery and observability.\nCollaborate with platform, network, database, security and cloud architects to ensure infrastructure designs meet application requirements.\nSupport solution implementation, migration, technical troubleshooting and post-migration stabilisation.\nCommunicate architecture decisions, risks, trade-offs and recommended next steps clearly to business and technical audiences.\nWork independently across multiple technical workstreams while maintaining effective stakeholder collaboration.\nWho you are\nEssential experience and capabilities\nAt least eight years of relevant experience across application architecture, DevOps, cloud, migration and modernisation.\nStrong experience in large-scale application discovery and assessment.\nDemonstrated ability to take ambiguous requirements through discovery, option evaluation and recommendation.\nStrong knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, CI/CD, Git and GitOps.\nExtensive public cloud experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform.\nExperience designing for networking, databases, identity and access management, security, secrets management, high availability, disaster recovery and observability.\nExcellent communication, consulting, analytical and stakeholder-management skills.\nStrong problem-solving capabilities and the ability to work independently across concurrent technical workstreams.\nDesirable experience\nUnderstanding of application development using Java, Spring Boot, .NET, Node.js or Python.\nExperience with APIs, microservices and modern application integration patterns.\nHands-on knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform and CI/CD tooling.\nExperience with Amazon EKS, Azure AKS or Google GKE.\nExperience with GitOps tools such as Argo CD.\nFamiliarity with evaluating open-source technologies for maturity, scalability, security, supportability and licensing.\nRelevant AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Kubernetes or Terraform certifications.\nNot a perfect fit?\nConcerned you may not meet every requirement?
