You will design, build and maintain scalable back-end applications, RESTful APIs and microservices, while contributing to solution and system design, integrations and the gradual migration of monolithic applications towards a microservices architecture.\nYou will also provide technical consultancy to clients, advise on engineering best practices and support technical decision-making. This role offers the opportunity to contribute across the development lifecycle, from design and implementation through testing, deployment, optimisation and knowledge sharing.\nWhat you’ll do\nDesign, develop and maintain high-quality, well-tested back-end services and RESTful APIs using Python and Django.\n\nWrite clean, maintainable and efficient code aligned with technical designs and business requirements.\n\nBuild and maintain microservices, including integrations with databases, search and logging infrastructure, internal systems and third-party services.\n\nContribute to the gradual decomposition and re-platforming of monolithic applications in line with established microservices architecture.\n\nPartner with front-end engineers to define and integrate API contracts.\n\nCollaborate with product managers and other stakeholders to support successful and timely delivery.\n\nContribute across planning, solution design, development, testing, deployment and ongoing maintenance.\n\nPerform peer code reviews and participate in debugging and troubleshooting.\n\nImprove back-end performance through caching, query optimisation and efficient data-access techniques.\n\nApply engineering practices including version control, code review and continuous integration.\n\nTranslate business requirements into secure, scalable and performant back-end designs.\n\nIdentify technical risks within service designs and recommend appropriate mitigations.\n\nEvaluate relevant tools, frameworks and technologies and contribute to decisions about the team's technology stack.\n\nProduce and maintain technical documentation covering code, APIs, services, operating procedures and architecture.\n\nSupport onboarding through knowledge-transfer sessions and technical documentation.\n\nProvide technical support, mentoring and guidance to colleagues across different experience levels.\n\nContribute to relevant team, department and company initiatives, including technical investigations, analysis, process documentation and knowledge transfer.\n\nWho you are\nYou have 5+ years of back-end development experience, with a strong focus on Python and Django.\n\nYou have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.\n\nYou have strong proficiency in Python and Django.\n\nYou have practical experience designing and building RESTful APIs.\n\nYou have experience working with relational databases and SQL.\n\nYou understand microservices architecture, distributed systems, design patterns and integration patterns, with practical experience contributing to monolith-to-microservices migration.\n\nYou are comfortable using version control systems and build tools.\n\nYou understand Agile/Scrum ways of working and can collaborate effectively within a fast-paced engineering environment.\n\nYou demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.\n\nYou can explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.\n\nYou actively develop and share your technical expertise.\n\nNot a perfect fit?\nConcerned you may not meet every requirement?
