Working closely with Product, Engineering, Finance, Procurement, and Portfolio teams, the role provides financial insight, ensures strong governance, and supports investment decision-making across Capital and Operational expenditure.\nWhat you’ll do\nKey Responsibilities\nFinancial Planning & Forecasting\nLead budgeting, forecasting, and month-end financial activities across multiple portfolios.\nDevelop and maintain financial plans covering Capex, Opex, capitalised overheads, and resource costs.\nMonitor and analyse spend against budget and forecast, identifying risks, opportunities, and corrective actions.\nCost Control & Governance\nEnsure compliance with financial policies, accounting standards, and governance requirements.\nManage project funding, purchase orders, accruals, recharges, and investment tracking.\nChallenge financial assumptions and forecasts to improve accuracy and control.\nSupport audits through accurate, well-documented financial records.\nPortfolio Financial Management\nPartner with Product, Engineering, Delivery, and Finance teams to provide financial reporting and insight.\nTrack costs against approved funding and investment plans.\nAnalyse variances, trends, and cost drivers, providing recommendations to leadership.\nMaintain financial visibility across complex, multi-million-pound portfolios.\nCapitalisation & Compliance\nAct as a subject matter expert for Capex, Opex, and capitalisation policies.\nEnsure costs are treated correctly in line with accounting requirements.\nReview resource allocations and capitalisation activities to maximise value and compliance.\nProvide guidance on financial governance and cost management best practice.\nReporting & Insight\nProduce dashboards, reports, and executive presentations.\nTurn complex financial data into clear, actionable insights.\nReport on portfolio performance, forecast accuracy, risks, and opportunities.\nDrive reporting automation and continuous improvement.\nProcess Improvement\nIdentify opportunities to simplify processes and improve financial controls.\nLead initiatives that increase efficiency and reporting quality.\nImplement automation solutions to reduce manual effort and improve data accuracy.\nEstablish scalable processes that support business growth.\nStakeholder Management\nBuild strong relationships across Finance, Product, Engineering, Delivery and Procurement teams.\nServe as the key contact for financial planning and governance matters.\nInfluence senior stakeholders through insight-based recommendations.\nSupport strategic planning and investment prioritisation.\nTeam Leadership & Coaching\nMentor and support other Cost Planners.\nShare best practice and contribute to capability development across the team.\n\nSkills & Experience\nStrong experience in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cost management.\nGood understanding of Capex, Opex, capitalisation, and financial governance.\nExperience supporting large technology, engineering, or transformation portfolios.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.\nAbility to present financial information clearly to senior stakeholders.\nExperience using Accounting systems e.g. SAP/Oracle, reporting tools, and financial dashboards.\nTrack record of driving process improvement and automation.\nTypical Outcomes\nAccurate financial plans and forecasts.\nStrong cost control and governance.\nImproved financial visibility for decision-makers.\nIncreased efficiency through automation and simplification.\nEffective investment management and cost optimisation.\nAudit-ready financial documentation.\n\nEssential Qualifications & Experience\nExcellent written and spoken English.\nExperience in a fast-paced IT or Telecommunications environment.\nCIMA/ACCA qualification, or significant experience in IT project accounting.\nExperience managing budgets exceeding £50m.\nBusiness Intelligence and reporting expertise.\nDesirable Qualifications\nDegree in Finance, Business, Economics, Information Management, or similar.\nKnowledge of Agile, Lean Portfolio Management, PRINCE2, or P3O.\nExperience with Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies.\nDirect Reports\nNo direct line management responsibility.\nWill lead and coordinate
