We are 100+ people across London, Palo Alto, and New York, with rapid growth expectations to hundreds.\nAbout The Role\nVolta aims to build self-driving data centers: Kubernetes-native platforms that are designed for near-total automation to make AI compute secure, reliable, and scalable.\nAs a software engineer on a new Developer Experience team, you will build tools, workflows, and agents that help our engineers use AI effectively across the entire product lifecycle to build these data centers. Your scope spans the full software lifecycle from foundational tooling such as development environments, CI/CD, and testing infrastructure to AI-native capabilities such as MCP servers, coding agents, and evaluation systems.\nSuccess in this role is measured by sustained adoption, faster feedback loops, higher-quality software, reduced toil, and more engineering work moving safely from intent to production.\nHow can we enable our engineers to move faster, with better quality, and better security? This is your motivating question.\nWhat You Will Be Doing\nDefining and executing Volta’s developer experience roadmap for software engineering, including AI enablement.\n\nBuilding the development platform, which may span build systems, dependency management, integration and test environments, etc.\n\nWorking with SOTA AI-assisted software engineering across harnesses, evals, verification loops, and observability.\n\nIntegrating agentic workflows into developer environments, source control, CI/CD, observability, and incident-response systems.\n\nBuilding agent infrastructure, including MCP servers, tool APIs, context and retrieval systems, permissions, auditability, and human approval paths.\n\nCollaborating with Security Engineering to establish secure practices across governance, model access, data handling, etc.\n\nContinuously improving the entire system based on engineer feedback.\n\nWhat You Bring\n4+ years in software, platform, infrastructure, AI, or developer tooling.\n\nExperience making tooling secure by default, e.g. with supply chain security, secrets management, and least-privilege access.\n\nExperience building test clusters and cluster management infrastructure to support developer environments.\n\nExpert knowledge of SOTA AI-assisted software engineering across harnesses, evals, verification loops, and observability.\n\nAn ear to the ground on emerging industry learnings and a track record of responding quickly to promising innovations.\n\nThe judgment and discipline to achieve a balance between exploration of emerging technology and exploitation of proven ones.\n\nExperience turning prototypes into reliable tools used by other engineers.\n\nWe still want to talk to you if you don’t check every box.
