Principle Architect

We are looking for a hands-on, execution-focused Principal Architect - BESS to design, integrate, validate, and commission complete battery energy storage systems (BESS), covering the full electrical scope from battery pack to grid interconnection, and overseeing the development team. The role reports to the founders and requires strong ownership of system architecture, vendor integration, site execution, and grid compliance. The Chief Architect will define and review the complete electrical architecture of BESS projects, including DC bus design, string sizing, C-rate validation, PCS integration, and auxiliary supply systems.

Responsibilities:

• Overseeing preparation of single-line diagrams, protection schemes, cable schedules, and layout drawings.
• Trade-offs between cost, performance, and scalability.
• Lead technical evaluation and integration of PCS and inverter systems, define grid-forming or grid-following strategies, and oversee reactive power control, frequency control, and black-start capability where required.
• Lead FAT, SAT, and overall system performance validation.
• Close coordination with battery OEMs to validate DC limits, protection devices, pre-charge circuits, and arc-flash safety, while owning BMS-PCS communication and control logic validation.
• Conduct protection coordination, short-circuit and load-flow studies, interface with utilities and DISCOMs, and ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, and local grid standards.
• This is a hands-on execution role involving supervision of installation, cable termination, switchgear and transformer integration, insulation and relay testing, functional testing, and grid synchronisation, with responsibility for resolving site issues in real time.
• The chief architect will work closely with mechanical, firmware, procurement, and data teams, and support technical discussions with customers.
• Battery design engineers senior/Architects.

Requirements:

• The ideal candidate has 8-10 years of experience in utility-scale BESS, solar-plus-storage, EV battery design or power-electronics systems, with a strong understanding of LV/HV systems up to 33 kV, protection schemes, and grid codes.
• Hands-on experience using tools such as PSCAD, ETAP, DIgSILENT, AutoCAD, or EPLAN is a plus.
• Preferred: M. Tech from Tier 1 colleges.
