An enthusiast of engines and vehicle performance, ideally with a passion for trucks and our business!\nYou combine knowledge of complete powertrain systems with an understanding of customer applications, duty cycles, vehicle performance, and data-driven engineering. You are able to translate customer needs and field observations into technical requirements, recommendations, and clear engineering conclusions.\nYou will work with product application, simulation, data analytics, calibration, software, and test engineers. Our main job is to understand how our products perform in real customer operations and to apply that knowledge to product development, maintenance, and specification decisions.\nAbout Us\nPowertrain Technology is contributing to the Volvo Group’s competitive position in the marketplace by developing and maintaining profitable products and product components in terms of quality, delivery, cost, and feature, and that comply with all applicable regulatory requirements. Our scope of work includes engineering and design of engines, gearboxes, axles, hybrid technology, and driveline, based on common architecture and shared technology.\nData Analytics, System Simulation and Application Engineering is part of the Powertrain Technology Application Center in Curitiba and is responsible for product application, complete powertrain simulation, and data analytics. This includes recommending and verifying powertrain specifications, evaluating vehicle performance and drivability, supporting on-road testing, and analyzing data from tests and connected vehicles.\nCustomer success, competitive product performance, and digital transformation are priorities in our strategy. Within this context, the team accelerates product development and maintenance by combining application knowledge, physical testing, simulation, and connected-vehicle data. We collaborate with our colleagues in Gothenburg (Sweden), Lyon (France), Hagerstown (USA), and Bangalore (India).\nWhat you will do\nAs a Mid-Level Product Application Engineer in our team, your main purpose is to secure that powertrain solutions are correctly specified, applied, and verified for Volvo trucks and buses in Latin American customer operations. You will connect market and customer needs with engineering development by translating real-world use cases into technical requirements, test cases, product recommendations, and improvement proposals.\nOur team supports the development and maintenance of global products and services, with particular attention to Latin American applications. You will work across complete powertrain areas - including medium- and heavy-duty engines, transmissions, rear axles, vehicle functions, and related systems - to optimize product specifications and evaluate fuel economy, performance, drivability, reliability, and customer acceptance.\nYou are expected to independently lead investigations and application activities, provide sound technical recommendations, communicate conclusions to diverse stakeholders, and support the development of less Mid-Level colleagues. A curious mindset and a willingness to learn directly from vehicles, drivers, customers, and field data are essential.\nThis is a field-oriented role, and you will spend part of your time away from the office. The engineer is expected to stay close to the product and the customer through frequent contact with vehicles, drivers, transport operations, workshops, and customer sites. Regular travel within Brazil - and occasional international travel - is an integral part of the assignment.\nAccountabilities & Responsibilities\nRecommend and optimize complete powertrain specifications for Volvo trucks and buses based on customer applications, duty cycles, road profiles, market requirements, and product targets.\nPlan, coordinate, and execute product application and vehicle evaluation activities, including the definition of test cases, test conditions, instrumentation, acceptance criteria, and required vehicles.\nMaintain direct and frequent contact with products and customers by visiting customer operations, accompanying vehicles in real duty cycles, interacting with drivers and service teams, and traveling regularly to test locations, workshops, and customer sites.\nAnalyze and interpret vehicle, test, and connected-vehicle data to assess fuel economy, performance, drivability, reliability, feature usage, and complete powertrain behavior.\nTranslate customer and market needs into technical requirements and convert engineering findings into clear recommendations for product development, maintenance, sales, and service stakeholders.\nSupport the resolution of performance and customer-related issues through structured root-cause analysis, field investigations, vehicle testing, and collaboration with relevant engineering functions.\nCollaborate with simulation and data analytics engineers to combine virtual models, physical measurements, and fleet data in robust application decisions.\nDocument and communicate engineering conclusions through technical reports, presentations, application guidelines, and decision material for local and global stakeholders.\nAct as a technical reference for product application topics, share knowledge, and support the development of colleagues and cross-functional teams.\nMaintain strong communication with product management, sales, service, project managers, software and calibration developers, test engineers, simulation engineers, data specialists, and global application networks.\nEducation, Experience, Knowledge & Skills\nDegree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Automotive Engineering, or a related engineering field.\nRelevant experience in product application, powertrain development, calibration, vehicle testing, performance engineering, or a comparable automotive role.\nStrong knowledge of complete powertrain systems, including engines, transmissions, rear axles, vehicle functions, and their interaction at vehicle level.\nKnowledge of customer applications, vehicle and engine operating conditions, road profiles, map data, environmental conditions, and the truck and bus market.\nHands-on experience in vehicle testing, measurement, troubleshooting, and engineering data analysis.\nAbility to define test cases, evaluate results against product targets, identify technical risks, and issue clear engineering recommendations and reports.\nExperience with data acquisition and analysis tools such as ATI VISION, CANalyzer, MATLAB, Python, or equivalent is a strong merit.\nFamiliarity with connected-vehicle data, simulation, Power BI, or other visualization and analytics tools is a merit.\nExperience working in an agile, cross-functional product-development or maintenance environment.\nStrong communication and presentation skills inPortuguese and English, both spoken and written.\nBrazilian driver’s license in categories D and E, or willingness and eligibility to obtain both categories, enabling the engineer to drive trucks and actively participate in product evaluations and customer-operation activities.\nA valid driver’s license and willingness to participate in vehicle tests, customer visits, and occasional domestic or international travel.\nBehavioral Competencies\nAct according to our values: Customer Success, Trust, Passion, Change and Performance.\nStrong customer, safety, and quality focus.\nProactive, hands-on, and curious approach to understanding products and customer operations.\nAbility to translate between customer language and technical language and communicate with credibility across functions.\nStrong analytical, organizational, and planning skills.\nAbility to work effectively in alocal and global cross-functional network.\nSelf-driven, accountable, and comfortable making recommendations in complex situations.\nAbility to share knowledge, mentor colleagues, and contribute to team development.\nFlexibility to work in a multi-tasking and dynamic environment.\nAbility to have fun!\nThis selection process will be conducted with the support of the consulting firm Apriori\nAt Volvo do Brasil, we value the candidate experience and collaborate with approved partners to ensure a professional selection process aligned with our values.\nWe reaffirm our commitment to protecting the personal data of all participants, in full compliance with the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD).
