As a Senior Engineer provides technical leadership and engineering expertise for the Volvo Rigid Hauler product platform, delivering robust mechanical, structural and hydraulic engineering solutions throughout the product lifecycle. Working with cross-functional teams and suppliers, the role supports the development of safe, reliable, cost-effective and customer-focused products that meet performance, quality and business objectives.\nKey Responsibilities\nProvide technical expertise across the Rigid Hauler Product Platform.\nLead, or support, technical investigations relating to component performance, durability, reliability, and lifecycle management.\nSupport the definition, development, integration, and validation of machine systems and subsystems.\nDevelop engineering solutions that optimise performance, quality, manufacturability, serviceability, and total product cost.\nCreate and review 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and supporting technical documentation.\nApply structured engineering methodologies and processes, including New Product Introduction (NPI), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and design reviews.\nEnsure compliance with internal engineering standards, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.\nEngage effectively with Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality, Aftermarket, and Supplier partners to ensure successful project delivery.\nSupport continuous improvement activities through data-driven problem solving and implementation of lessons learned.\nContribute to technology development, product strategy, and future platform evolution.\nSkills, Qualities and Experience\nEssential Skills, Qualities and Experience\nDegree qualified (BSc/BEng or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.\nDemonstrated experience in the design, analysis, or application of structural and/or mechanical systems used in heavy-duty equipment, large capital equipment, or mobile machinery.\nExperience working within architecture-based product development environments involving integrated components and subsystems.\nProven ability to lead technical investigations and drive engineering solutions from concept through implementation.\nProficiency in 3D CAD modelling using modern engineering design software.\nWell-developed understanding of engineering design principles and lifecycle management practices.\nExperience applying recognised engineering tools and methodologies, including NPI, FMEA, FTA, design standards, and technical specifications.\nWell-developed analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured and data-driven approach.\nSkilled communicator with the ability to maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and the ability to influence technical discussions across multiple functions.\nDesirable Skills, Qualities and Experience\nKnowledge of hydraulic systems and their application in mining, construction, or off-highway equipment.\nExperience using PTC Creo for 3D modelling and engineering drawing creation.\nExperience with SAP engineering change management and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.\nChartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards professional registration.\nExperience within the mining, quarrying, construction, or off-highway equipment industries.\nUnderstanding of off-highway machine applications, duty cycles, and customer operating environments.\nWhat's in it for you?\nAt Volvo Construction Equipment Haulers Ltd, you'll have the opportunity to develop your career in a collaborative and supportive environment while enjoying a range of benefits designed to support your wellbeing, work-life balance and financial security.\nOur Benefits Include:\nCondensed 4-day, 35-hour working week\nEnhanced family leave, including maternity, paternity and foster leave\nEmployee Assistance Programme (EAP) providing confidential wellbeing and support services\nEmployee Referral Scheme with rewards of up to £1,000\nLocal bonus scheme\nCycle to Work Scheme\nElectric Vehicle Salary Sacrifice Scheme\nExclusive employee discounts for you, your family and friends, including:\nHealthcare plans\nGym memberships\nTravel and holiday discounts\nHotels and leisure breaks\nTheme park tickets\nRetail and lifestyle savings\nWe value your data privacy and therefore do not accept applications via mail.\nWho we are and what we believe in\nWe are committed to shaping the future landscape of efficient, safe, and sustainable transport solutions.
