We are located at site Braås, part of Volvo Construction Equipment and home of the articulated hauler. VPD works with virtual product development in the areas of vehicle simulation, structural and vibration analysis, and data analytics. We have a great interest in mathematics, physics, and problem-solving.\nBackground:\nWheel loaders at Volvo CE use sensors to monitor key machine parameters and provide feedback to the controller. On existing machines, bucket load can be estimated at certain machine positions. However, load and reaction force information throughout the complete short loading cycle, particularly during material interaction and excavation, is not currently available.\nThis thesis will explore methods to estimate bucket loads and forces throughout the loading cycle using the machine’s existing sensors and the wheel loader’s kinematics.
