This is a critical role where your work directly impacts business communications for customers worldwide.\nWhat You'll Do\nCore Responsibilities\nBuild scalable telephony systems - Design and develop distributed, high-volume production telephony applications for our UCaaS platform that handle real-time voice traffic at scale\n Develop custom FreeSWITCH solutions - Create custom modules, dialplan configurations, and ESL (Event Socket Library) integrations for advanced call control and automation\nDeliver advanced telephony features - Implement call recording, voicemail transcription, fax processing, audio streaming, and other mission-critical voice features\nRapid prototyping to production - Build proof-of-concepts quickly and evolve them into production-ready, maintainable code\nDrive technical innovation - Evaluate emerging telephony technologies and recommend architectural improvements that enhance our platform capabilities\nMentor and lead - Guide team members on design patterns, best practices, and telephony architecture decisions\nDay-to-Day Collaboration\nParticipate in the full agile development lifecycle: sprint planning, design reviews, standups, and demos\nRespond promptly to production incidents affecting customers and business operations\nWork independently on end-to-end feature delivery while contributing to broader team goals\nPartner closely with Product Management, QA, and Operations teams to deliver cohesive solutions\nCommunicate progress, blockers, and technical decisions clearly with engineering leadership\nWhat You'll Bring\nRequired Experience & Skills\nTelephony & VoIP Expertise (Must-Have)\n6+ years of software development experience\n3+ years hands-on experience with telephony platforms: FreeSWITCH, Asterisk, or similar open-source PBX systems\nDeep understanding of:\n SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) and RTP protocols\nVoIP architecture and NAT traversal techniques (STUN, ICE, TURN)\nAudio codecs (G.711, Opus, etc.)\nDialplan development and call flow design\nProgramming & Development\nStrong proficiency in Java, C/C++, Python, and SQL\nExperience with CI/CD pipelines and modern development workflows\nInfrastructure as Code practices\nContainerization with Docker and Kubernetes\nCloud & Infrastructure\nHands-on experience with AWS services: EC2, EKS, Lambda, S3, SNS, SQS, CloudFront\nLinux systems expertise: performance tuning, networking, file systems\nDatabase experience with:\nRelational: MySQL, PostgreSQL\nNoSQL: Redis, MongoDB\nProblem-Solving & Debugging\nProven troubleshooting skills in complex, distributed production environments\nSystematic debugging approach for real-time communication systems\nExperience analyzing performance bottlenecks and system failures\nNice to Have\nExperience with WebRTC\nFamiliarity with Kamailio, OpenSIPS, or other SIP proxies\nKnowledge of PSTN interconnection and carrier integrations\nPrevious UCaaS or CPaaS platform experience\nContributions to open-source telephony projects\nExperience with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog)\nWhy This Role Matters\nAs a FreeSWITCH Developer at Vonage, you'll work on voice infrastructure that powers critical business communications globally.
