Start your Voyage -Apply Now\nVoya Financial is seeking a Director of Data Engineering to provide hands-on technical leadership for multiple data-engineering teams supporting our Wealth business, including retirement and retail wealth capabilities. This leader will combine people leadership with deep technical judgment, helping teams make sound architecture, solution-design, and data-engineering decisions while delivering reliable end-to-end data pipelines.\nThis is an opportunity for an experienced data-engineering leader who still enjoys working in the technical details. You will guide engineering teams and technical leads, review designs and code, establish strong engineering practices, and collaborate with fellow data leaders on standards and initiatives that span multiple business domains.\nPlease note: This position allows remote work from home. East Coast location or Eastern Time working-hour alignment is strongly preferred based on the team’s collaboration model.\nThe Contributions You’ll Make:\nLead four data-engineering teams supporting the Wealth domain, providing leadership to technical leads and a distributed engineering organization.\nProvide hands-on technical leadership across architecture, solution design, implementation, and engineering quality.\nReview technical designs and code, challenge engineering decisions constructively, and help teams implement scalable, maintainable solutions.\nGuide the development and operation of end-to-end data pipelines, with a strong focus on Databricks and modern data-engineering practices.\nEstablish and reinforce engineering standards for data quality, error handling, monitoring, and reliable pipeline development.\nPartner with peer data-engineering directors to establish consistent standards, practices, and procedures across data domains.\nLead and coordinate initiatives that span engineering teams and business domains.\nPartner with internal customers, product teams, technology partners, and other stakeholders to translate business needs into effective data solutions.\nSupport critical production incidents when leadership and technical expertise are needed, including problem assessment, root-cause analysis, and resolution planning.\nDevelop technical talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and thoughtful leadership.\nAdvance modern engineering practices, including appropriate use of automation and AI-assisted development capabilities.\nMinimum Knowledge & Experience:\nBachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field of study.\nSignificant professional experience in data engineering, including progressively responsible technical and leadership experience.\nDemonstrated experience leading multiple data-engineering teams and/or technical leads.\nStrong knowledge of SQL, relational database concepts, and data architecture.\nExperience designing, developing, and operating modern end-to-end data pipelines.\nExperience with Databricks or a comparable modern data-processing platform, with the ability to transfer knowledge between technologies.\nSufficient programming experience to understand and review Python or comparable data-engineering code.\nStrong understanding of data quality, error handling, observability, and engineering practices that support reliable pipelines.\nExperience contributing to technical architecture and solution-design decisions.\nExperience providing technical leadership during significant production incidents.\nDemonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate across engineering teams and technical and business stakeholders.\nPreferred Knowledge & Experience:\nDirect experience with Databricks and Spark.\nExperience with API and integration concepts within broader enterprise data architectures.\nExperience leading globally distributed or offshore engineering teams.\nExperience establishing engineering standards across multiple teams or domains.\nExperience with cloud-based data platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.\nFamiliarity with automated data-quality frameworks and mature CI/CD practices.\nExperience within financial services, retirement, wealth management, or investment-related data environments.\nFamiliarity with AI-assisted development, pipeline automation, anomaly detection, or automated data-quality monitoring.\nCompensation Pay Disclosure:\nVoya is committed to pay that’s fair and equitable, which means comparable pay for comparable roles and responsibilities.\nThe below annual base salary range reflects the expected hiring range(s) for this position in the location(s) listed.
