This role requires in-office attendance at least 3 days a week.\nRESPONSIBILITIES:\nDesign, implement, and maintain backend services Kharon's flagship client-facing application - spanning Kotlin, Java, Go, and Python\nDevelop and ship new APIs and features across the full development lifecycle, from requirements clarification through pull request, QA feedback, and production release\nTroubleshoot and resolve bugs by investigating logs, reproducing issues locally, and delivering clean, targeted fixes\nWrite automated tests and contribute to a culture of code quality - producing pull requests that are readable, well-scoped, and maintainable\nCollaborate cross-functionally with product owners, frontend engineers, QA, and architects - serving as a clear communicator who can explain service design, API contracts, and architectural decisions to a range of audiences\nContribute to infrastructure responsibilities including CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), Kubernetes cluster deployments across dev/QA/stage/production environments, and core AWS services (Lambda, RDS, EKS, S3)\nParticipate in two-week agile sprints using Jira, with flexibility to support production hotfixes and larger feature releases as needed\nSupport and mentor mid-level engineers on the team over time\nQUALIFICATIONS:\n5+ years of backend-focused software engineering experience\nStrong proficiency in at least one JVM language - Java or Kotlin strongly preferred; Spring Boot and/or Micronaut experience a plus\nFamiliarity with microservices architecture and the ability to reason across service boundaries and understand downstream dependencies\nExperience with Vue.js or openness to contributing to a Vue-based frontend when needed\nSolid understanding of relational and graph databases; PostgreSQL and/or Neo4j experience a plus\nWorking knowledge of AWS fundamentals (Lambda, EC2, S3) and container orchestration (Kubernetes)\nExperience with CI/CD workflows, preferably GitHub Actions\nA testing mindset - comfortable writing unit and integration tests and responding to QA feedback loops\nStrong communicator who asks clarifying questions, validates requirements before building, and can partner effectively with product and non-engineering stakeholders\nComfortable using AI coding tools as a productivity accelerator - with the judgment to review, scope, and own every line of code you ship\nBonus: Experience in fintech, risk, sanctions, or financial crime compliance domains\nABOUT KHARON:\nKharon is a highly disruptive and incredibly innovative organization that navigates risk at the intersection of global security threats + international commerce.\nWhat does that mean?
