Our Engineering Managers are hands-on technical leaders who bring both strategic vision and the willingness to dig into the details alongside their team.WHAT YOU'LL DO\nLead the day-to-day execution and operations of an engineering team, ensuring high-quality delivery, strong ownership, and predictable outcomes\nManage and support team members through all aspects of people leadership, including performance management, career development, and feedback\nPartner closely with Product and Design to define priorities, shape roadmaps, and deliver customer-centric solutions aligned to business goals\nOwn delivery outcomes for your team-balancing speed, quality, and sustainability while managing dependencies and risks\nCoach and develop engineers and technical leads, helping them grow both technically and professionally\nProvide technical leadership by guiding architectural decisions, promoting sound engineering practices, and supporting design discussions across services and systems\nFoster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence within the team\nCollaborate with peer engineering managers and cross-functional stakeholders to align on priorities and drive cohesive, scalable solutions\nChampion modern engineering practices, including cloud-native development, observability, and automated testing\nEnsure systems are reliable, scalable, and well-instrumented, with strong focus on performance and operational visibility\nSupport and evolve team processes, including Agile ceremonies, planning, and delivery practices\nEmpower Lead Engineers to mentor others, scale knowledge, and elevate technical execution across the team\nWHAT YOU'LL NEED\n10+ years of experience building and delivering software, with strong background in modern web applications and distributed systems\n\n5+ years of experience leading engineering teams, including direct people management responsibilities\n\nDeep experience with cloud-native architectures and building scalable, resilient services\n\nStrong experience with backend and API-driven systems (e.g., REST, GraphQL, event-driven architectures)\n\nExperience working with modern frontend technologies (e.g., TypeScript-based frameworks)\n\nHands-on experience with technologies such as Java/Spring, relational databases (e.g., Postgres), and distributed systems tools (e.g., Kafka, Redis)\n\nExperience deploying and operating applications in cloud environments (preferably AWS), including containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)\n\nFamiliarity with infrastructure as code and deployment tooling (e.g., Helm, Argo, Ansible)\n\nExperience with observability and monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry)\n\nStrong understanding of CI/CD practices and automated testing strategies\n\nExcellent communication skills with the ability to influence across technical and non-technical stakeholders\n\nAbility to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment and drive clarity amid ambiguity\n\nProven ability to hire, grow, and retain high-performing engineering teams\n\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience\n\nExperience building and operating SaaS platforms at scale\n\nFamiliarity with secure application design, identity, and access management (e.g., Okta)\n\nExperience with modern UI frameworks (Vue.js preferred)\n\nBackground in healthcare technology, data platforms, or revenue cycle management\n\nExperience leading teams working with event-driven architectures and microservices\n\nABOUT WAYSTAR\nThrough a smart platform and better experience, Waystar helps providers simplify healthcare payments and yield powerful results throughout the complete revenue cycle.\nWaystar’s healthcare payments platform combines innovative, cloud-based technology, robust data, and unparalleled client support to streamline workflows and improve financials so providers can focus on what matters most: their patients and communities.
