Examines causes of poor product quality, researches causes of complaints and implements corrective action. Acts as a source of knowledge to operations personnel with the ability to advise and recommend changes.\nEssential Functions\nSamples and conducts testing on aggregates conforming to the appropriate standard test methods.\nField and laboratory testing of complete product line to insure Quality Control of products at the point of production, shipping and arrival upon the jobsite.\nTest methods include but are not limited to American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and Department of Transportation (DOT).\nIndividual must perform testing proficiently and accurately.\nCommunicates test results in a timely manner to supervisor and properly documents in data base.\nTroubleshoot problems and review basic product specifications.\nVisually inspects stockpiles, materials sources, and truck loads at plant sites.\nMonitors daily the construction of the stockpile to ensure that segregation and contamination is kept to a minimum or eliminated. Notifies management immediately if contamination is identified.\nConducts testing and assists in plant calibrations to insure the proper quality of the product.\nCompletes all required reports in a timely and accurate manner. Maintains appropriate hard copy files.\nPeriodically inspects, calibrates and maintains testing equipment.\nEnsures housekeeping standards are maintained in and around the lab.\nDevelops and maintains relationships with state/county/city inspectors and customers to allow for proper and timely communication of test results and speedy resolution of any product quality issues or concerns.\nOther duties as assigned.\nCritical Competencies\nCustomer Focus - Builds positive customer relationships and gains trust and respect, prioritizing their needs and using feedback to improve products and services.\nCommunication - Communicates clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, while actively listening and adapting the message to the audience.\nTeam Player - Works cooperatively and effectively with team members to achieve shared goals, willingly assisting others and fostering a positive and productive team environment.\nPlanning and Scheduling - Effective planning of repair procedures, scheduling work considering resource availability, and maintaining necessary inventory.\nProblem Solving - Identify, analyze, and resolve work-related issues efficiently and effectively using practical knowledge, experience, and hands-on skills. Finds practical solutions, implements fixes, and adapts to unexpected challenges.\nQuality Control - Ensure that products, services, or processes meet quality standards by systematically inspecting and testing them to identify defects and make necessary improvements.\nEducation\nHigh School diploma or its equivalent is required.\nSome college preferred.\nExperience\nThis is typically an entry level position. 0 to 2 years laboratory testing experience in construction aggregate/HMA/RMC properties. Individual may have some prior training or experience in the materials testing field and demonstrates a proficiency to perform basic Quality Control duties and responsibilities.\nCertifications preferred:\nACI Concrete Laboratory Technician Level I\nN.I.C.E.T. Level II (Asphalt & Concrete)\nState and locally required certifications\nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities\nIndividual must possess good math and demonstrate the ability to perform simple to moderately complex arithmetic calculations.\nMaintain and calibrate testing equipment.\nProficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google, Oracle Business Environment and other software packages relevant to the position.\nMust be attentive to detail.\nPerson must have the ability to perform material testing in an orderly, efficient and accurate manner.\nDocument all inspection and testing activities.\nPerson must possess good verbal communications skills for dealing with plant production personnel, plant managers, customers and agency representatives.\nAbility to problem solve and work independently.\nOther Requirements\nThis position requires knowledge and awareness of construction and mining site hazards.\nWill be required to wear protective gear when working in the field, including gear to protect against exposure to noise, dust and hazardous materials.
