Individual will assure the correct products and quantities are delivered in a timely manner, maintain records of daily production orders, respond to customer questions and concerns by phone and in person to maintain good customer relations, weighs trucks to insure that the material is correct and the right weight, computes accounts receivable to insure accuracy of cash sales and receipts. Completes cash reconciliation, product sales and other reports daily. May be responsible for petty cash and banking deposits. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the trucking industry, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.\nEssential Functions\nDISPATCHING:\nBecomes thoroughly familiar with day's business demands by reviewing schedule and individual customer orders at beginning of and continuously throughout shift.\nDirects Plant Operators, Loader Operators, Drivers, or Batch Plant Operators regarding which material to load on trucks.\nDirects Drivers regarding which customer job site to receive delivery.\nWrites or prints delivery tickets for all loads of material leaving the yard.\nWeighs Company and non company trucks on truck scale before and after being loaded with aggregate products.\nReports immediately any delivery problems to service or sales representatives for quick resolution or mitigation.\nORDER TAKING AND SCHEDULING:\nReceives customer orders, mostly by telephone but also from drivers on Company radio, service or sales representatives over radio or in person, and occasionally by customers in person.\nAssists customers in identifying proper products needed for specific end uses.\nTactfully balances cost effective delivery times and rates for Company with customer demands.\nAdvises customers on Company order confirmation and delivery policies.\nRecords customer orders on order form and journalizes in schedule book as received.\nDaily, towards end of shift, may make out schedule for drivers to punch in the next business day in correspondence with customer order requirements.\nREPORTING AND OTHER:\nCompletes reports daily on product sales, product allowances and adjustments, delivery problems, DTL’s (Daily Transmittal Letter) and other matters.\nPerforms other duties as directed.\nCritical Competencies\nCustomer Focus- Builds positive customer relationships and gains trust and respect, prioritizing their needs and using feedback to improve products and services.\nCommunication- Communicates clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, while actively listening and adapting the message to the audience.\nTeam Player: Works cooperatively and effectively with team members to achieve shared goals, willingly assisting others and fostering a positive and productive team environment.\nCustomer Focus- Builds positive customer relationships and gains trust and respect, prioritizing their needs and using feedback to improve products and services.\nInterpersonal Savvy- Engages openly and comfortably with diverse groups, demonstrating tact, sensitivity, and consideration to ease interpersonal situations. Finds practical solutions, implements fixes, and adapts to unexpected challenges.\nProduct Knowledge- Understands and can explain succinctly VMC products and/or services including their composition, features, benefits, and limitations.\nWork Ethic- Committed to high-quality work, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and personal responsibility in fulfilling job duties.\nEducation\nHigh School or equivalent.\nExperience\nSeven to 10 years experience that has included dispatching, customer relations, and construction/transportation; administrative or sales experience is required.\nTelephone, keyboard, computer and 10-key operator experience a plus.\nQualified individual would act in a lead or supervisory capacity.\nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities\nStrong understanding of trucking regulations and procedures\nAbility to maintain satisfactory customer relations and possess good math skills.\nAbility to plan ahead to effect timely product delivery according to schedule; work at fast pace and prioritize work; and communicate effectively with customers as well as truckers.\nKnowledge of paving, concrete and construction materials and trucks and transportation requirements and regulations.\nSkilled in using computers to record information and create reports; scheduling and organizing large numbers of people and equipment efficiently and quickly; reading maps.\nMust be able to work independently and make decisions while providing excellent customer service by phone and in person.\nAbility to memorize and recall detailed information; communicate effectively with customers as well as truckers; work independently and make decisions; and handle multiple tasks concurrently; and work well under pressure.\nOther Requirements\nWill be required to wear protective gear when working in the field, including gear to protect against exposure to noise, dust and hazardous materials.\nAbility to sit for long periods of time.\nPosition involves extended use of computer during the workday.\nOccasionally, must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.\nHourly Range. The base hourly range for this role is between $30.00 - $37.00 per hour. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package.
