Who are we?

We are Aero Transportation Products (ATP), a business organization part of the great Wabtec Corporation. Established in 1979 and purchased by Wabtec in 2017, our organization has supported the Agriculture and Industrial arena as an innovator in the rail industry for 45 years. We have designed and built products that both feed and house everyone throughout North America and are working on new products for applications in Europe and beyond.

Who will you be working with?

This position is part of ATP, which includes sites located in Independence, MO and in McPherson, KS. Our Independence site is based in an underground industrial complex customized for Fiberglass production. The McPherson site is a metal fabrication and weld shop, in the picturesque setting of America's Heartland. The ATP team is comprised of a diverse group from varying backgrounds, all motivated by an enjoyable and positive work culture. ATP team members primarily support the production of steel and aluminum hatch covers and gates for Wabtec’s Freight Components division.

This role is specific to the Independence, MO location.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the Independence-based team, you will be responsible for the general assembly of products in accordance with product specifications, engineering drawings, and quality procedures. You will be cross trained in a variety of tasks, including building products using fiberglass, resins, and hard structural materials. Your training will also include the use of a variety of hand and pneumatic tools. You will report directly to the Production Supervisor or Manufacturing Supervisor, as well as the Plant Manager.

What will your typical day look like?

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform general assembly of products in accordance with product specifications/ engineering drawings.
  • Perform required inspections of product in accordance with Quality Procedures.
  • Build hatch cover structures using fiberglass, resins, and hard structural materials.
  • Use verity of hand tools, including pneumatic tools.
  • Interpret work instructions
  • Work safely, including wearing appropriate PPE, maintain a clean work area.
  • Work within a group and execute duties within a team structure
  • Perform additional duties as deemed necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform general assembly of products in accordance with product specifications/engineering drawings.
  • Perform required inspections of product in accordance with Quality Procedures.
  • Record applicable inspection/test results.
  • Interpret inspection/test results to reflect job function requirements as necessary.
  • Work safely and maintain a clean work area.
  • Perform additional duties as deemed necessary.
  • Must be able to arrive on time, and work a full shift
  • Must be able to work a full work week.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to use common hand tools
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Ability to interpret and apply standards.
  • Ability to stand for approximately 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 35 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a closed environment, specifically within a cave system
  • Ability to work on uneven surfaces

Education/Experience:

  • Prior assembly in a manufacturing facility preferred but not required.
  • Fiberglass experience preferred but not required.

What about the physical demands of the job?

  • Ability to stand for approximately 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 35 lbs.
  • Working Environment/Environmental Hazards:
    • Enclosed cave environment
    • Climate control
    • Work with fiberglass, resins, and other chemicals

The typical working hours for this role are 7:00am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday. Overtime hours may be available or even required according to business needs and within the parameters of any applicable federal/state laws.

The hourly rate for this role is in the range of $18.00 - $25.00 per hour.

The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. Our job titles may span more than one career level. The hourly rate for this role is currently $18-25. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
