You will have opportunities to work with other engineering teams, product management teams, supply chain teams, as well as our suppliers to delivery the high quality and reliability electronic products for our locomotives and Off High Vehicle.\nHow will you make a difference?\nThe Director, Electronics and Firmware Engineer is an executive level technical position, responsible for the direction and oversight of all electronic hardware product designs. They provide strategic direction for the organization in their area of expertise and support business proposal efforts, as appropriate. They ensure the success of the Electronic Hardware and Firmware team by participating in all phases of the design process, from requirements through final design qualification and production launch. They mentor and guide the team through the design process. They review and approve product design details.\nWhat do we want to know about you?\nBachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronics Engineering or equivalent.\n\n20+ year’s experience in the development of complex electromechanical assemblies involving integration of mechanical and electronic hardware, software, firmware, and FPGA logics.\n\n10+ years in a technical leadership position\n\nDemonstrated creative problem solving and success in overcoming steep technological challenges.\n\nDemonstrated ability to quickly understand, critique and suggest value added improvements to other engineer’s designs.\n\nExperienced in both analog and digital design challenges.\n\nThorough working knowledge of electronic hardware design tools, processes, and industry best practices.\n\nKnowledge of the deliverables required throughout a structured product development lifecycle.\n\nEnthusiastic team player with a flexible approach.\n\nSelf-motivated and able to work under own initiative.\n\nExcellent communications skills and will be able to demonstrate working well with others.\n\nDemonstrated success in mentoring and guiding technical teams.\n\nWhat will your typical day look like?\nParticipate and guide design projects involving electronic hardware, firmware, and FPGA logics to ensure technical risks are appropriately assessed and mitigated.\n\nEnsure designs are sound and comply with relevant technical, professional and group standards and best practices.\n\nContribute to the resolution of technical challenges that get escalated to the Consulting Engineer level.\n\nProvide Technical Support to the system team on hardware architecture, working closely with the proposal team to provide discipline specific technical input to proposal and concept designs.\n\nProvide strategic direction of the company in the areas of electronics hardware and firmware technology and innovation.\n\nWork collaboratively with other global functions to establish best in class products and processes.\n\nMentor and guide junior technical staff in area of expertise.\n\nDrive the long-term technical development of the company by introducing new techniques, procedures, and practices.\n\nAssist the Electronics HW/FW team with planning, project programs and associated time and resource estimates and skills requirements.\n\nEnsure compliance of the project documentation and artifacts per the Tollgate product development lifecycle process.\n\nYou may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.\nThis role is also eligible for a performance bonus. The salary rate for this role is currently $120600-171800 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
