Trip Optimizer creates and executes fuel-efficient operating plans that meet schedule and train-handling requirements, while Locotrol enables coordinated control of distributed locomotives throughout the train. Together, these technologies improve train handling, fuel efficiency, operational safety, and the ability to operate longer and heavier trains.\nAs a Systems Engineer, you will work closely with engineering teams, product management, and railroad customers to support the development of innovative solutions that advance automation within the rail industry.\nHow will you make a difference?\nAs a Systems Engineer, you will support the design, development, testing, and deployment of Wabtec's Train Handling portfolio. Working under the guidance of experienced engineers, you will contribute to requirements development, system analysis, verification activities, and product enhancements while adhering to established engineering processes and standards.\nThe successful candidate will demonstrate an AI-enabled mindset, leveraging AI tools to improve research, problem-solving, productivity, and technical decision-making. You will continuously learn emerging technologies and apply data-driven insights to help deliver high-quality solutions that meet customer and business needs.\nWhat do we want to know about you?\nBachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Mathematics or Computer Science from an accredited college or university\nMinimum of 1-2 years hands-on design, requirements development and implementation experience involving; Engineering Systems, Hardware / Software Engineering, and/or Data Information Systems\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills\nStrong oral and written communication skills\nAbility to work in a cross-functional, global environment\nWillingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally\nWhat will your typical day look like?\n· Support the design, development, testing, and enhancement of Train Handling solutions while applying sound engineering principles and established development processes.\n· Assist in gathering, documenting, and analyzing customer and system requirements to support product development and continuous improvement activities.\n· Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, Software Engineering, Train Control, Office Systems, Safety, Validation, and Applications Engineering, to support project execution and successful product delivery.\n· Participate in requirements reviews, design reviews, verification activities, and technical discussions throughout the product development lifecycle.\n· Assist in troubleshooting technical issues, analyzing system behavior, and supporting resolution efforts under the guidance of senior engineers.\n· Contribute to field testing, validation, and evaluation activities for train automation and optimization solutions.\n· Support the preparation of technical documentation, reports, project updates, and engineering deliverables.\n· Work with railroad subject matter experts and engineering teams to learn operational concepts and apply them to product development efforts.\n· Develop knowledge of industry standards, engineering best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to train automation, optimization, and distributed control systems.\n· Utilize AI-enabled tools and technologies to improve productivity, accelerate learning, support analysis activities, and enhance engineering outcomes.\nPreferred Qualifications\n· Foundational understanding of systems engineering principles and product development processes.\n· Exposure to software, controls, automation, transportation, or embedded systems through coursework, internships, or project experience.\n· Familiarity with systems architecture concepts and distributed systems is a plus.\n· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.\n· Interest in applying AI-enabled tools and data-driven approaches to engineering challenges.\n· Knowledge of railroad operations, AAR standards, CENELEC standards, or safety-critical systems is preferred but not required.\nRelocation assistance may be provided if eligibility requirements are met.\n[US Only] Wabtec will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the U.S. for this opening.
