Backed by Clearsky

Wärtsilä is an innovative technology company known for being a forerunner in the Marine and Energy markets. Every day, we - Wärtsilians - put our hearts and minds into turning Wärtsilä's purpose of enabling sustainable societies through innovation in technology and services into reality. Our ultimate aim is to provide increased value to both our customers and society. New, game-changing ideas and continuous improvement have been part of our DNA since 1834. Together, we can create new business opportunities and more sustainable future that we can all be proud of.

We want to transition the world towards a decarbonised and sustainable future. By pushing the boundaries of engineering and technology, we can make it work. We are always on the lookout for future-oriented talent - want to join the ride?

We are looking for an experienced Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer to support the continued development of our Digital Port Solutions portfolio while helping advance our software engineering practices through the practical use of AI and development agents.

This role combines hands-on software development with technical leadership and a strong focus on introducing and scaling AI-assisted engineering practices across the software development lifecycle.

You will work closely with Product, Development, QA, Business Analysis and DevOps teams to deliver reliable enterprise software while identifying opportunities to improve engineering productivity, software quality and delivery speed through AI-enabled development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain enterprise software solutions across our Digital Port Solutions portfolio.

  • Deliver hands-on full-stack development across frontend, backend, databases, APIs and system integrations.

  • Support technical design and architecture decisions for new functionality and customer implementations.

  • Lead the adoption of AI-assisted software development tools and agent-based development workflows.

  • Establish practical engineering standards for the effective, secure and responsible use of AI in software development.

  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive development, testing, documentation and code-review activities.

  • Support the development of AI-enabled product capabilities where applicable.

  • Improve software maintainability, automated testing, code quality and overall development lifecycle efficiency.

  • Mentor developers and promote modern software engineering practices across the team.

  • Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, QA, DevOps and project delivery teams.

  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of complex technical and production issues.

  • Measure and demonstrate the impact of AI-enabled engineering practices on development productivity, quality and delivery efficiency.

Required Experience and Competencies

  • Strong hands-on experience as a senior full-stack software developer.

  • Solid experience with modern web application architecture and enterprise software development.

  • Experience with technologies such as .NET/C#, Angular/TypeScript, SQL and REST APIs, or comparable technology stacks.

  • Experience with Azure, containers, CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.

  • Strong understanding of software architecture, integration patterns, security and maintainability.

  • Practical experience with AI coding assistants, development agents or agentic software development workflows.

  • Ability to critically assess, validate and improve AI-generated code rather than relying on AI output without appropriate review.

  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Ability to provide technical leadership while remaining actively involved in software delivery.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across Product, Engineering and Delivery organizations.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience implementing AI/LLM capabilities within enterprise applications.

  • Experience with agent frameworks, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Model Context Protocol (MCP), tool integrations or similar AI application patterns.

  • Experience working with high-availability or operationally critical software.

  • Experience in maritime, transportation, logistics or other complex operational environments is considered an advantage.

Key Outcome

This role is expected not only to contribute directly to software delivery, but also to help transform how the broader development organization uses AI and modern engineering practices.

Success in the role will include improving development speed, software quality, engineering efficiency and the responsible adoption of AI-enabled development practices across the organization.
