The preferred location for this position is Vaasa, Finland, but other Wärtsilä locations in Finland and Trieste, Italy are negotiable. We offer the possibility of hybrid remote work.\nYour role and responsibilities\nAs a Supplier Development Engineer, you’ll be working as part of an impactful Supplier Development team and Category team with diverse expertise, and your work will consist of:\nManaging new product introduction and leading proactive quality assurance activities for the selected commodity (castings, forgings or metal constructions) \nAnalysing supplier performance and capabilities, identifying development opportunities and driving impactful development actions \nDeveloping and executing supplier development action plans to improve supplier performance \nSupporting suppliers with their operational development initiatives in relation to quality, delivery and cost \nExecuting supplier audits and audit follow-up according to the supplier development action plan and verifying the impact \nRequirements for the position:\nStrong technical expertise in castings, forgings or metal constructions, with a solid understanding of the relevant manufacturing processes, technologies, and key factors affecting product quality and manufacturability\nGood understanding of quality management principles, processes, and tools \nExcellent communication skills \nStrong personal drive for identifying development potential and proven skills in leading improvement projects or initiatives successfully within cross-functional teams \nPerformance-focused mindset and capability to make an impact on increasing the performance level \nA systematic way of working and excellent problem-solving skills \nCapability to apply lean principles and statistical process control in daily work to drive improvement \nTo be able to succeed in the position, we expect you to have:\nM.Sc. or B.Sc. in Engineering or Economics, or equivalent education\nFluency in English, both verbal and written \nWillingness to travel \nExperience within the Production Part Approval Process / experience in quality management, for example in manufacturing processes \nPrevious auditing experience or a lead auditor qualification (e.g., ISO 9001) \nStrong experience with Six Sigma (Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent) \nWhy you and us?\nWe at Wärtsilä believe in empowerment, ownership and taking responsibility for our work.
