In this role, you will design and build scalable, reliable systems while working across the frontend, backend, and data platforms.\nThis is a hands-on individual contributor role. You will spend significant time writing production-quality code, reviewing code, solving complex technical problems, and partnering with engineers and product teams to deliver high-impact solutions.\nYou will also play a key role in defining technical direction, reviewing architecture, and driving engineering best practices across the team.\nAbout Team:\nOur team collaborates with Walmart International, which has over 5,900 retail units operating outside of the United States under 55 banners in 26 countries including Africa, Argentina, Canada, Central America, Chile, China, India, Japan, and Mexico, to name a few.\nWhat you'll do:\nDesign, develop, and maintain scalable full-stack applications using React and Java/Spring Boot.\nBuild robust backend services, APIs, and distributed systems with a strong focus on performance, scalability, reliability, and security.\nDevelop and maintain real-time and event-driven systems using Apache Kafka.\nDesign and implement large-scale data processing and analytics pipelines using Apache Spark.\nWork across the entire technology stack-from frontend user experiences to backend services, data processing, and distributed systems.\nTake ownership of complex technical problems and drive them from design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.\nDefine and review system architecture, technical designs, APIs, data models, and integration patterns.\nConduct detailed code reviews and ensure high standards of code quality, maintainability, testability, and engineering excellence.\nEstablish and promote best practices around design patterns, coding standards, testing, observability, and CI/CD.\nIdentify technical debt and drive initiatives to improve system quality, performance, reliability, and developer productivity.\nMentor engineers through technical guidance, design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on collaboration.\nCollaborate with product managers, architects, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.\nEvaluate new technologies and approaches and drive adoption where they provide meaningful technical or business value.\nWhat you'll bring:\n10+ years of software engineering experience, with significant experience building and operating large-scale production systems.\nStrong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot.\nStrong experience building modern web applications using React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.\nStrong experience with Apache Kafka and event-driven/distributed architectures.\nHands-on experience with Apache Spark and large-scale data processing.\nStrong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, APIs, data modeling, and system design.\nExperience designing and implementing highly scalable and reliable systems.\nStrong understanding of object-oriented design, design patterns, concurrency, data structures, and algorithms.\nStrong focus on code quality, automated testing, maintainability, and engineering best practices.\nExperience conducting architecture and code reviews and driving technical standards across engineering teams.\nExcellent debugging and problem-solving skills.\nStrong communication skills and the ability to influence technical decisions across teams.\nHands-on technical leader: You should be comfortable writing production code rather than being limited to architecture or technical oversight.\nStrong system thinker: Able to reason about scalability, reliability, performance, security, and operational characteristics of complex systems.\nQuality-focused engineer: Passionate about clean, maintainable, well-tested code and engineering excellence.\nArchitecture leader: Able to define technical direction while balancing short-term delivery needs with long-term system evolution.\nCollaborative mentor: Able to raise the engineering bar through design discussions, code reviews, mentoring, and technical leadership.\nEnd-to-end ownership: Comfortable taking a problem from requirements and architecture through implementation, deployment, and production operations.\nAbout Walmart Global Tech\n Imagine working in an environment where one line of code can make life easier for hundreds of millions of people.
