Unit Information
Join our dedicated team in a Medical Oncology unit with progressive care beds, specializing in pediatric patients. This high-acuity Progressive Care Unit (PCU) also includes a limited number of medical-surgical beds.
Schedule
This position requires acceptance of a rotating 12-hour day and night contract. Scheduling may involve days, nights, or a combination depending on departmental needs. Shift assignments are reviewed every four weeks, though changes are not guaranteed and are based on staffing priorities.

This 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit boasts over 24 beds designated for PCU-level care. Pediatric patients are rarely admitted and will primarily be managed by permanent staff. While previous pediatric experience is not required for agency staff, high-acuity PCU experience is mandatory.

- B450 monitors GE telemetry system
- Bladder Scanner
- Alaris pumps
- Stryker beds
- Continuous Bladder Irrigation
- PCA Pumps
- High acuity experience in a PCU setting is required
- Preferred: 2 years of oncology experience
- Certifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), NIH Stroke Scale
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4-5 for Medical-Surgical Telemetry; 1:3 for PCU
- Flexibility to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
- Previous travel experience is preferred
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Utilization of rapid response teams
- Feeding tube care and management
- Accessing ports for medication
- Blood product administration
- Central line care and management
- PICC line management
- Starting IVs
- Heparin protocols
- Management of cardiac drips (not including titration)
- PCA management
- Titration of cardiac drips
- Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
- External CPAP/BIPAP management
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) application
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Nasal cannula application
- Tracheostomy management
- Management of dysrhythmias
- IV insulin protocols
- Titration of insulin drips
- Phlebotomy
- Chemotherapy administration and monitoring
- Wound care and management (including Wound Vac)
- Arterial line management
- Management of surgical drains
- Non-invasive airway management
