Your models will define vehicle design and intercept feasibility, ΔV budgets, terminal constraints, survival envelopes, effectiveness, and system-level design trades.\nYou will work directly with the founders GNC, Propulsion, Sensor, and Avionics engineers to connect your models to real test data and ensure every design choice is grounded in physics.\nWhat You’ll Do\nInterceptor Dynamics Modeling\nBuild high-fidelity 6DOF models of interceptor trajectories and target maneuvers.\nModel aerodynamic forces, flight regimes (subsonic → hypersonic), and uncertainties.\nImplement full state propagation with drag, atmospheric effects, gravity, and actuator limits.\nGuidance, Control & Sensor Model Integration\nIntegrate GNC algorithms into simulation environments.\nModel perception pipelines: IR signatures, SNR, glint, thermal clutter, and atmospheric attenuation.\nBuild closed-loop simulations with perception → guidance → actuation → dynamics → intercept logic.\nHailstorm Dispersal Modeling\nModel particle trajectories, dispersal cones, cloud expansion, and lethality envelopes.\nModel impulse delivery mechanisms: blast, thrust, or hybrid dispersal events.\nWork with energetics engineers on momentary high-G propagation and multi-body interactions.\nMonte Carlo & Probabilistic Analysis\nRun large-scale Monte Carlo simulations to evaluate hit probability, robustness, and margins.\nDevelop parameter sweeps for timing, sensing errors, aerodynamic uncertainties, and ΔV constraints.\nProduce data-driven design recommendations for system architecture decisions.\nSimulation Infrastructure & Visualization\nBuild clean, modular simulation tools in MATLAB/Python/C++ for internal engineering teams.\nDevelop visualization tools (2D, 3D, orbital views) used for engineering and visual storytelling.\nMaintain code quality, performance, and model usability across the engineering org.\nRequired Qualifications\nB.S. or M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or similar.\nStrong experience with dynamic simulations (MATLAB, Simulink, Python, C++, Julia, or equivalent).\nDeep understanding of orbital mechanics, flight dynamics, or missile/rocket modeling.\nExperience with numerical methods, ODE/PDE solvers, filtering, integration stability, and optimization.\nAbility to validate simulated results against analytical solutions or experimental data.\nStrong intuition for physics and comfort working with incomplete or noisy data.\nUS Person or Lawful Permanent Resident status required.\nNice to Haves\nExperience modeling hypersonic flow, ablation, or high-enthalpy environments.\nExperience with high-speed particle or fragment modeling.\nExperience connecting simulation to hardware-in-the-loop systems.\nFamiliarity with CFD tools (OpenFOAM, SU2, ANSYS Fluent).\nExperience with sensor modeling: IR/EO tracking, radar, radiometric models, or synthetic scene generation.\nExperience building custom visualization pipelines or simulation frameworks.\nCompensation\nThe base pay range for this role is $100,000 - $160,000 per year.","description_format":"text","description_chars":3404,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Military","Missiles","Defense Manufacturing"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-25T17:22:42Z"}],"liveness":{"score":9,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":0.9,"p_active":0.363,"p_room":0.28,"age_days":79,"expected_fill_days":36,"reasons":["conf:50","win:tail","crowd:"],"computed_at":"2026-10-01T05:45:00Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":160000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/wardstone-simulation-and-modeling-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/wardstone-simulation-and-modeling-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-01T17:31:07Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":11,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":4989,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-02T00:00:00Z"}}}
