Candidates with advanced skills in one or more construction trades are especially desirable.\nKey Responsibilities\nGeneral Maintenance, Repairs & Troubleshooting\nPerform routine and intermediate-level repairs to University buildings, classrooms, offices, laboratories, residence areas, common spaces, and other campus facilities.\nDiagnose building maintenance issues, identify practical repair solutions, obtain needed materials, and complete work in a safe and timely manner.\nPerform general carpentry and finish work, including framing and blocking, door and hardware repair, trim and molding, shelving, cabinetry, ceiling tile replacement, and other wood or composite material repairs.\nRepair and finish drywall and plaster surfaces, including patching, sanding, preparation, painting, caulking, and other interior and exterior finish work.\nPerform basic plumbing work such as repairing leaks, unclogging drains, replacing faucets, valves, toilets, supply lines, traps, and other fixtures, and identifying issues that require a licensed plumber.\nPerform basic electrical maintenance permitted for the position, such as replacing switches, receptacles, lighting fixtures, lamps, ballasts/drivers, and similar components, while referring work requiring a licensed electrician to the appropriate contractor.\nAssist with mechanical and HVAC maintenance, including filter replacement, basic troubleshooting, thermostat and equipment checks, minor component replacement where appropriate, and coordination with service vendors for more complex repairs.\nMaintain, assemble, repair, relocate, and install University furniture, fixtures, equipment, appliances, signage, and building accessories as needed.\nRenovation & Campus Improvement Projects\nComplete small renovation and improvement projects from demolition through final finish, including selective demolition, wall repair or construction, drywall installation, painting, flooring and ceiling repairs, fixture installation, trim work, and related punch-list items.\nAssist the Director of Facilities with planning and sequencing campus renovation projects, estimating material needs, preparing work areas, coordinating access, and minimizing disruption to University operations.\nRead and follow basic plans, sketches, manufacturer instructions, and project scopes in order to complete repair and renovation work accurately.\nCoordinate with outside contractors and vendors as directed, including providing site access, explaining field conditions, monitoring progress, and assisting with project closeout or corrective work.\nIdentify opportunities for cost-effective repairs and improvements that extend the useful life of campus buildings, finishes, fixtures, and equipment.\nPreventive Maintenance & Facility Inspections\nConduct routine inspections of campus buildings, rooms, roofs and accessible exterior areas, doors and hardware, plumbing fixtures, lighting, finishes, equipment, and other facility components to identify maintenance needs before they become larger problems.\nPerform and document preventive maintenance on building systems, vehicles, tools, equipment, and facility components in accordance with established schedules and manufacturer recommendations.\nRespond promptly to work orders and service requests, document completed work, and communicate unresolved or higher-risk conditions to the Director of Facilities.\nMaintain organized inventories of commonly used maintenance supplies, replacement parts, tools, and materials and notify the Director when replenishment is needed.\nGrounds, Exterior & Seasonal Maintenance\nPerform or assist with landscaping and groundskeeping activities, including mowing, trimming, planting, mulching, debris removal, and general seasonal upkeep.\nInspect and maintain exterior building elements, walkways, site furnishings, signs, fences, drainage areas, and other campus exterior features within the capabilities of the position.\nParticipate in snow and ice removal, storm preparation and cleanup, and other weather-related campus response activities.\nHelp maintain the cleanliness, appearance, and overall curb appeal of University buildings and grounds.\nSafety, Tools & Operational Support\nUse hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, utility vehicles, grounds equipment, and other maintenance equipment safely and properly.\nMaintain clean and orderly work areas and follow applicable workplace safety practices, University procedures, and OSHA-related requirements.\nAssist with campus event setup and breakdown, including tables, chairs, staging, room configuration, and related facility support.\nProvide after-hours, weekend, and emergency facilities support as scheduled, including participation in the University’s on-call rotation.\nPerform other facilities-related duties and projects as assigned by the Director of Facilities.\nRequired Qualifications\nFour (4) or more years of progressively responsible experience in facilities maintenance, general construction, building repair, or a related skilled trade. Equivalent combinations of directly relevant experience and technical training will be considered.\nDemonstrated ability to independently complete routine and intermediate maintenance, repair, and small renovation projects using sound construction and repair practices.\nWorking knowledge of several building trades, such as carpentry, drywall/plaster, painting, plumbing, basic electrical, mechanical/HVAC maintenance, flooring, ceiling systems, or related construction disciplines.\nProficiency in the safe use of common hand tools, power tools, ladders, maintenance equipment, and groundskeeping equipment.\nStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, including the ability to determine whether work can be completed internally or should be referred to a licensed or specialized contractor.\nAbility to plan and organize assigned work, identify required materials, complete tasks with limited supervision, and communicate status or concerns to the Director of Facilities.\nAbility to interact professionally with students, faculty, staff, contractors, and visitors while working in occupied campus environments.\nValid driver’s license and dependable transportation.\nAbility to meet the physical requirements of the position and successfully complete the University’s pre-employment screening requirements.\nPhysical Requirements\nThe ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs. Participation in an on-call rotation for after-hours emergency response.\nCompensation & Benefits\nCompetitive salary commensurate with experience.\nComprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, retirement plan, and paid time off.","description_format":"text","description_chars":8576,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":4,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Retirement plans"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":true,"industries":["Cybersecurity","Education","Higher Education"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-08T15:49:51Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":75,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.833,"p_room":0.9,"age_days":13,"expected_fill_days":25,"reasons":["conf:2","win:mid"],"computed_at":"2026-10-22T06:10:10Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":70000,"is_top_pay":false},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/washington-d-c-facilities-maintenance-technician","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/washington-d-c-facilities-maintenance-technician.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-22T08:14:50Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":4418,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-23T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":1841675},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=1841675"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fwashington-d-c-facilities-maintenance-technician"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fwashington-d-c-facilities-maintenance-technician"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fwashington-d-c-facilities-maintenance-technician"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/washington-d-c-facilities-maintenance-technician\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fwashington-d-c-facilities-maintenance-technician"}]}
