This is a strategic and technical engineering role responsible for reviewing, designing, enhancing, and maintaining core infrastructure systems.\nThe Tier 2 designation reflects a broader mastery across multiple Wastequip technology stacks, requiring proven expertise in at least four core areas and the ability to operate across the full infrastructure landscape. This role provides advanced engineering capability, technical leadership, and mentorship, while also serving as an escalation point for complex issues.\nThis role is located in our headquarters in Charlotte, NC.\nKey Responsibilities:\nInfrastructure Design & Implementation\nArchitect and deploy scalable, secure, and resilient infrastructure solutions (on-prem, cloud, hybrid).\n\nLead and oversee infrastructure projects to support key business initiatives from planning through execution and post-deployment support.\n\nSystems Engineering\nConfigure and maintain enterprise-grade servers, storage, virtualization platforms, and networking components, including making recommendations as to system functional specifications.\n\nEnsure high availability and performance of infrastructure systems.\n\nCloud & Virtualization\nManage and evaluate cloud environments (Azure, AWS, etc.) including provisioning, monitoring, and cost optimization.\n\nDirect implementation and administration of virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V) to ensure efficient resource utilization.\n\nSecurity & Compliance\nImplement and evaluate infrastructure-level security controls and ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., NIST, CIS, ISO).\n\nCollaborate with cybersecurity teams to harden systems and develop strategies to respond to vulnerabilities.\n\nAutomation & Monitoring\nDevelop and maintain infrastructure automation scripts (PowerShell, Python, Terraform, etc.).\n\nEnhance monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and resolve issues.\n\nCollaboration & Leadership\nAct as a senior technical escalation point for IT support teams.\n\nMentor Tier 1 engineers and contribute to the development of infrastructure standards, playbooks and documentation.\n\nTravel to tier 1 sites and partner with Operational leadership to ensure technology needs are being met.\n\nQualifications:\nBachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).\n\n5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering or systems administration.\n\nStrong expertise in Windows/Linux server environments, networking, virtualization, and cloud platforms.\n\nExperience with infrastructure-as-code and automation tools.\n\nExcellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.\n\nRelevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft, Fortinet, Cisco, VMware, Nutanix, AWS, Azure) are a plus.\n\nCompany Benefits:\n2 Medical Plan Options - Base HSA (High Deductible) and Buy-Up\nMedical Plans\nPrescription (Rx) Insurance\nHealth Savings Account (HSA)\n2 Dental Plan Options - Base Dental and Buy-Up Dental Plans\nVision Insurance\nFlexible Spending Accounts (FSA’s)\nHealth Care FSA\nDependent Care FSA\nCompany Paid Base Life Insurance\nCompany Paid Accident, Death & Dismemberment Insurance\nCompany Paid Business Travel Accident Insurance\nCompany Paid Disability Insurance\nShort-Term Disability (STD) and Base Long-Term Disability (LTD)\nInsurance\nEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)\nVoluntary Hospital, Accident & Critical Illness (Cancer) Insurance\n401(K) Retirement Plan with 50% Company Match\nVoluntary Pet Insurance\nVacation and Personal/Sick Time\nPaid Grandparent Leave\nPaid Bonding Leave\nAdoption Assistance\nEducation Assistance (Tuition Reimbursement)\nAbout Wastequip\nWastequip got its start in 1989 with containers and compactors.
