Responsibilities will include receiving customer applications, conducting field assessments (using the mWater App), working with the Senior Engineer to input data into the hydraulic model to confirm connection feasibility, determining material requirements, and following up with the technical team to ensure satisfactory connection completion — all while upholding Water Mission's QA/QC standards and values. This role will be based in Makindu, Kenya, with regular site visits to Kambu, Muthingini, Sultan Hamud, Mutyambua, Kinyongo, Kwa Kavisi, and other areas. This is an unpaid, non-renewable internship for a period of one (1) year. As an employee within the company, the Engineering Intern is responsible for promoting accuracy and accountability, encouraging continuous learning from challenges, and to consistently deliver sustainable water solutions aligned with the company's mission, vision, values, and operational standards.\n1.0 Duties and Responsibilities\nConduct fieldwork assessment for customer applications using mWater App to collect GPS and other data in line with established engineering principles and standards.\nWork with WMK Senior Engineer to simulate the collected data on the hydraulic model to determine the possibility of serving the customer from the existing water supply system and make necessary recommendations.\nPrepare schedule of material and cost estimates for the customer in consultation with the WMK Senior Engineer.\nOnce the customer pays for the materials, work with Senior Engineer and Technical Officer to ensure the customer is satisfactorily connected.\nAfter Connection, work with the Senior Engineer to update ‘as built drawings’ and with Customer service to activate customer meter.\nAny other role as may be assigned.\n2.0 Qualifications, Skills & Mechanical, Environmental or Biosystems Engineering and graduated within the last one year (2025) or awaiting graduation in 2026 (With Letter of completion from the university).\n2.3 Skills and Abilities\nDemonstrated skills with office computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and drafting and modeling software (AutoCAD, EPANET, PowerCADD, SolidWorks, ProE).\nHigh level of integrity & stewardship, inspiring trust & confidence in the usage of resources.\nSmartphone and mobile data collection proficiency – uses mobile tools to record field data.\nStrong analytical, process design, and project planning and management skills.\nDetail-oriented and standards-driven, with strong forward planning ability.\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills in English.\nWillingness and ability to travel for fieldwork.\nStrong work
